“You are not my father. You may have contributed to creating me,

but you are no one to me. I do not need you, and I will never need

you.”

Richard looked like a brick wall had hit him. He took a step back and

steadied himself.

“Well then, I’m sure your mother will have some words for you when

you get home. I’m sure she will not be impressed by your behavior

today. At least I have my daughter who has some respect for me” his

gaze landed on me.

“Respect? Oh, I have something for you, but it is definitely not

respect. You don’t have a daughter. I don’t want to have anything to

do with you. You are no one to me either. For 28 years, you both lied

to me. Ma lied about not knowing who,my father was, and you lied

about not knowing I existed. You never bothered to visit me or find

out how I was doing. So don’t even start with that bullshit now. Rocky

speaks for me too when he says, we don’t need you, and we never will

need you” I finally found my voice. The man abandoned me even

before I was born. He didn’t get to walk into my life one day and own

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in, pulling Blake’s arms

away so I could turn to face my mother. Blake stayed close to me,

holding me up.

“I guess we’ve reached an impasse then, haven’t we, ma” I walked up

closer to her and looked her straight in the eye.

“I will show him no respect. He has not earned respect. So, ma, you

have to choose because this is where I draw the line. Him or me? I

suggest you decide very carefully because if I walk out these doors,

you’re on your own.”

Mum looked at me, completely stunned. Her eyes flickered between

Richard and me. Her lips moved to say something, but no words came

out. The indecision was written all over her face.

“Bethany, I’m here for you. Like I always have. Don’t let her scare

you. You are her mother. She can not just walk away from you. It’s

this boy I’m telling you. He’s filling her head with all these lies,”

Richard said, pointing towards Blake.

“Watch it, old man. You do not talk to him like that.” Rocky piped in.

“Don’t worry, Rockz. He can say whatever he wants. He’s

disrespecting someone that’s on the elder’s committee. That is a

bigger crime than having children outside of your bonding.”

Richard flared his nose and gawked at Blake.

“So, ma, what will it be?” I asked.

She looked very undecided. I could tell by the way she was fidgeting.

“Richard. I pick Richard. At least he doesn’t treat me the way you do.

He comes to visit, and he brings me what I need. You boss me around

like I’m a child.”

Ma’s words punched me straight in the heart. After everything I had

done for her, everything I had suffered because of her, she picked

him.

Tears slid down my cheeks as her words registered. She had finally

cut that last piece of string I held on to.

“Okay, ma,

if that’s what you want. Before I go, you should know that

Blake and I are getting married. I was initially debating whether or

not I wanted you to come, but today you’ve made my decision clear. I

love you. Please take care of yourself and don’t bother calling me

when you’re in trouble.” I turned away from her and let off the breath

I was holding.

“Take me home, please,” I whispered, knowing Blake could hear me.

His arms immediately wrapped around me and started towing me

out of the room.

“Wait, Rosy, don’t leave. I want us to get to know each other.”

Richard stepped in our way.

“I don’t think she wants to know you, old man. If I ever see you

anywhere near Rosy again, I will make sure it’s your last day on this

earth. Now move” Blake’s voice was laced with anger.

“You can’t make decisions for her. She’s my daughter! I will see and

talk to her whenever I like.” Richard took a step forward, his jaws

clenched and hands fisted.

Richard was suddenly pushed away, and in his spot was standing an

outraged Rocky.

“You do not talk to my Alpha and Luna with such disrespect! I don’t
