Chapter 106 Bad Luck
Ivy looked at her helplessly. “Don’t worry, Cece. I won’t go back on something I promised you.”
She still didn’t fully understand Cecelia’s decision, but she chose to trust her.
Because the current Cecelia had changed a lot. She was nothing like before.
Sometimes, the way Cecelia carried herself even reminded her of Timothy–reliable and steady,
If she really had to choose between Cecelia and Timothy, she would choose her own sister.
“Cecelia, Ivy, Matthew–come here. I need to talk to you.”
Timothy walked over with a deep frown and called the three of them over.
Cecelia and the others stepped forward.
Matthew noticed their grim expressions and asked in confusion, “Timothy, did the talk not go well? What happened?”
Ryan crossed his arms, glanced at Cecelia, and sneered. “What else could it be? It’s about someone’s newly found dear cousin–Jerome.”
“What happened to Jerome?”
Ivy looked at Timothy, Hendrick, and Regina, all of whom looked troubled.
‘Most likely they’re saying Jerome is bad luck. That he’s the reason half their team died.”
Cecelia clicked her tongue and looked at Timothy and the others. “Am I wrong?”
Timothy paused.
Hendrick raised a brow. “Looks like you already know some of it.”
Yeah. When I got there, I saw them pushing my brother toward the zombies as bait.”
Cecelia shot him a cool glance. “They hold a grudge against him. Of course they’re going to smear him.”
Timothy fell silent. After a moment, he sighed and turned to Hendrick. “Hendrick, you explain
Alright”
Hendrick looked at Cecelia, Ivy, and Matthew and spoke calmly. “They did say their team members died because of Jerome. But they also mentioned something more important. They said Jerome told them that mutated zombies have something in their brains that can upgrade abilities.”
“Isn’t that just crystals?”
Matthew didn’t find it strange. “Cecelia figured that out too. If someone else discovered it, that’s normal. How does that make him bad luck?”

Finished
Regina frowned. “If that were all, it wouldn’t be an issue. But they said when they first met Jerome, the team he was with had already been wiped out by mutated zombies. Only Jerome and one older man survived. Later that man got bitten by a mutated zombie. Before he turned, he pointed at Jerome and said he was a curse… bad luck… that they had to kill him…”
“If someone said that, why did they keep Jerome around?”
Ivy was skeptical. Mainly because she trusted her sister’s judgment.
Jerome did give off the vibe of a gloomy teenager, but not some cursed disaster.
“They said they kept him out of sympathy.” Hendrick replied. “At first, they didn’t even plan to hunt mutated zombies for those ability–upgrading items. But once they set out, they kept running into bad luck. In just one week, their team nearly got wiped out three times.”
As he spoke, his expression turned strange. He glanced at the quiet boy standing by the SUV. “Think about what’s happened since Cecelia brought him back. The mutated rats appeared. Then we ran into a level 4 mutated cat. And when we tried to leave, the road collapsed and blocked our way…”
Originally, they didn’t believe in something that ridiculous.
But after everything that had happened in the last few hours since Jerome joined them, they couldn’t help reconsidering.
After hearing all that, Cecelia’s mouth twitched. She crossed her arms and looked at Timothy and the others with narrowed eyes. “So what now? After 15 minutes of discussion with Jayson’s team, the result is that you want Jerome to get lost?”
“Cecelia.”
Hendrick stared at her deeply. “Tell us the truth. Is he really your cousin?”
“Yes.”
Cecelia answered without hesitation. Meeting his gaze, she said word by word, “Jerome is my brother. No matter what you say, I’m not kicking him out.”
Seeing how firm she was, Timothy felt a headache coming on. He frowned slightly, then turned to Ivy. “We want to hear your opinion. Is Jerome really your cousin?”
Ivy froze. She bit her lip and looked at Cecelia, opening her mouth as if to speak.
Timothy continued in a serious tone, “Ivy, maybe before the apocalypse, we wouldn’t believe this kind of thing. But now it’s the end of the world. People have abilities–strange ones too. Maybe even Jerome himself doesn’t know if he really has this bad luck‘ trait. We’re saying this for the sake of the team. Don’t keep covering for Cecelia just because she wants something.”
Jerome looked about the same age as Cecelia.
Timothy guessed the two might have some special relationship and that Cecelia had brought him back under the excuse of being relatives.
