That was because Cecelia had warned Ivy before that her healing ability was special. She absolutely couldn’t reveal it in front of outsiders again.
Ivy hesitated, lips pressed tight. She looked at Cecelia.
Cecelia pulled her behind her and glanced coldly at Zera, who was wailing in Jayson’s arms. “No need to save her.”
The moment those words came out, Jayson’s team froze.
Randy’s eyes went wide. He stared at her in disbelief. “Are you really that cold–blooded? She’s a girl just like you. Even if she has no ability, you’re just going to watch her die?”
Timothy and the others weren’t surprised.
Hendrick glanced at Cecelia. He didn’t believe Zera had ended up like this without Cecelia’s involvement.
Ryan was still annoyed about what happened earlier with Cecelia. Hearing Randy’s words, he rolled his eyes. “So what if she’s a girl? She’s not part of our team. Why should we save her? If you’ve got the guts, you
save her.”
In his eyes, men and women were the same in the apocalypse.
No ability meant no ability. If you’re meant to die, you die. Why bother saving?
Randy’s face darkened after being snapped at. He looked at Cecelia and Ryan with a complicated expression. “I didn’t expect you guys to be this cold.”
He turned to Timothy. “Timothy, you’re not the same as them, right?”
Timothy frowned slightly. He looked at the hand Zera used to cover her neck and the blood seeping out. “There’s no point saving her,” he said quietly. “She was bitten by a zombie.”
“Bitten by a zombie? That’s impossible! We already cleared out all the zombies nearby!”
Randy refused to believe it.
But Jayson’s expression changed the moment he heard that. He grabbed Zera’s hair and yanked her head back.
Sure enough.
After being bitten by a zombie, people shifted at different speeds.
But one thing was certain–the earliest sign was the eyes.
The pupils would slowly turn gray–white. Once the pupils fully changed, the person was completely a
zombie.
Right now, Zera only had one eye left that was still normal.

That meant she hadn’t fully shifted yet.
“Shit!”
Jayson’s face changed. He kicked Zera away.
She rolled on the ground, screaming in pain.
She was barely conscious, still crying out, “Save me!” and mumbling things like, “I didn’t kill Brian!” and “Let me go!”
Soon her whole body started convulsing. She vomited mouthful after mouthful of black blood.
Her face was filled with unwillingness. In her remaining black eye were pain and rage. She stared at a certain direction, lips trembling. “A–A… Amber…”
Amber still had zombie blood on her clothes from earlier. Her face was cold as she walked toward Zera step by step.
Under everyone’s gaze, Amber smiled.
She slowly bent in front of Zera. Her eyes were filled with the thrill of revenge. “My brother died because of you. Now I’m returning the favor. An eye for an eye. Enjoy it.”
“Y–you… hhh…”
Zera’s last eye slowly turned gray–white. In the end, with pain and resentment, she breathed her last.
But the next second, her body jerked. She suddenly sprang up from the ground, gray–white eyes locked onto Amber as a zombie–like roar escaped her throat.
Amber’s face changed slightly. She stepped on Zera’s head and swung her knife again.
Crack-
The sharp kitchen cleaver came down hard.
Like chopping firewood, it cut straight through the zombie Zera’s neck.
Her head rolled forward and stopped right by Randy’s feet.
Randy looked at the wide, lifeless eyes and nearly jumped out of his skin. He stumbled back several steps.
After killing Zera, Amber wiped the cleaver she had picked up earlier while searching the back for
zombies.
Red–eyed, she walked toward Cecelia.
But she didn’t speak right away. Her emotions were still running high.
Before last night, she had never imagined she’d be able to personally kill Zera and avenge her brother.
