Matthew was just starting to breathe easier when he looked up, and his face went pale.

“Timothy! Hendrick! Cecelia! A lot of regular zombies are heading this way!”
Matthew spoke while peering through the binoculars. Dawn was just beginning to brighten the sky, and the expanding light made it possible to see far across the open terrain.
“How many?”
Timothy asked, frowning.
Matthew swept the horizon again. His face tightened. “A huge cluster. At least a few thousand.”
“A small horde.”
Cecelia’s voice was flat. She looked at Timothy and the others. “We need to move. Now. This place is magnet. More will keep coming until we’re completely overrun.”
Even regular zombies, in numbers like that, were a serious problem.
No one hesitated. Timothy gave the order, and his people scrambled into their vehicles.
Ivy and Jerome were roused.

In under two minutes, they were moving.
Timothy’s big cargo truck rumbled to life and led the way.
Hendrick’s military SUV and Cece’s followed close behind. They pushed hard, the horde shrinking in the distance.
They accelerated quickly.
The zombie swarm began to fade into the distance.
Cecelia borrowed Matthew’s binoculars

“Faster,” she said to Oliver.
The big man didn’t hesitate. He floored it.
Vroom!
The SUV lurched forward, surging past Hendrick’s vehicle and taking the lead.

The G–force pressed Cecelia into her seat, but she kept the binoculars trained on the horde.
The level 4 mutated zombie was still coming.
And it was gaining speed.
Hendrick must have seen it too. His SUV was now at full throttle.
The military vehicles could outrun most things, but the cargo truck?
The cargo truck was a sitting duck.

With less than a mile to spare, Timothy and Matthew leaned out of the cab and threw up barriers behind them.
A moment later, the level 4 vanished from Cecelia’s line of sight.
Blocked.
She lowered the binoculars and glanced back at Amber, still unconscious in the rear seat.
“Keep going. As fast as this thing can go.”
“What’s happening, Cece?” Ivy asked from beside her. “Is that swarm really that dangerous?”
“There’s a level 4 mutated zombie inside it. If the whole swarm reaches us at once, we won’t hold them off. Leaving now is our best option.”
“Will they keep chasing us?”
“Probably not.”
After a brief pause, Cecelia added, “Head toward the western district entrance of Sanctum City.”
Oliver nodded, focused on the road. The SUV plowed forward, its heavy frame shoving aside the few zombies that strayed into its path without slowing.
Military grade.
High clearance.
Enough horsepower to make roadkill out of anything in its way.
“Fucking hell, these things just keep coming!”
Ryan stomped on the gas pedal.
But the cargo truck was massive. No matter how hard he pushed it, it simply couldn’t match the speed of

Behind them, the swarm was closing the distance. Matthew’s forehead was slick with sweat. He had already exhausted his ability several times, trying to raise earth barriers behind the truck.
But he was only level 2. There was only so much he could do.

“This isn’t working. That level 4 is going to catch us. And if it does, we’re dead.”
“Just our luck…
Ryan’s fist slammed the wheel. Up ahead, Timothy leaned out of the lead SUV and signaled.
Matthew’s face changed. “Ryan, Timothy’s telling us to ditch the truck. Get to their vehicle. Now.”
“But the supplies-”
“Staying alive matters more!”
Matthew made the decision immediately and signaled back.
After driving another stretch of road, both vehicles slowed.
Ethan and Matthew jumped out of the cargo truck and sprinted toward the waiting SUVs.

Chapter 200 Escape Before the Flood
Timothy suddenly thought of the level 4 mutated zombie Cecelia had killed not long ago. Compared to the one behind them, that earlier creature barely seemed worthy of the same classification.
No wonder Cecelia had fled so quickly.
Their vehicles had stopped only briefly to pick up Matthew and Ethan, yet Cecelia’s SUV had already vanished from sight.
Fortunately, Regina, now a level Three psychic, could still sense the direction Cecelia had taken.
Hendrick kept the accelerator pinned, pushing hard to close the gap.
