Chapter 29 A Breakthrough
That question hit the mark perfectly.

Cecelia went with it, glancing calmly at Timothy and the others. “Basically, you hold it in your hand, focus your mind, and you can absorb the energy from the crystal into your body. As for how exactly, I’ve never tried it myself. Why don’t you just give it a shot and see?”
The crystal was right in Timothy’s hand.
When Timothy heard Cecelia’s casual tone, he felt uneasy.
To be honest, he wasn’t sure what to think.
From the first time he met Cecelia, he had felt that something about her was strange.
Later, watching her do things with their team made him frustrated.
Even someone as patient as he was growing increasingly annoyed with her.
But since the night before, everything Cecelia did seemed to carry a hint of guidance.
It was a very strange feeling.
She must know something.
From telling them that there was a police station in Northbank, to the daytime when a level–2 zombie could call for backup, and to the zombie levels and the crystal in its brains–all of this showed that Cecelia probably knew something about the apocalypse.
Where she learned it from, he didn’t know.
Over the past month, Cecelia had spent most of her time hiding at the temporary safe house, staying put.
When she moved, she caused trouble.
Two nights ago, while they were moving from another safe house to this one, Cecelia almost got Ryan bitten by a zombie.
She was such an unpredictable woman.
Could her words be trusted, or not?
Timothy didn’t want to take the risk.
“I’ll try it!”
Ivy stepped forward and stood in front of Timothy, looking at everyone. “Since this guess came from Cece, and she hasn’t awakened her ability, I’ll do it. I have a healing ability, and I’ve used a lot of it on everyone today, so I’m perfect for this test.”
She volunteered, and no one said a word.

Cecelia, on the other hand, smiled.
Her smile was because Ivy trusted her!
“No way! What if something goes wrong with the crystal, Ivy? What if you get hurt? You’re really important
to our team!”
Ryan was the first to speak up in disagreement.
Cecelia twitched her lips, and her face darkened. She gave him a cold glare. “Timothy and Hendrick are the main fighters, Matthew handles logistics and is important too, and even Regina–her psychic ability is the best alarm system. But you, a level–1 fire ability user, aren’t too good, aren’t too bad. Whether you do more or less doesn’t matter. So, why don’t you try it?”
“You!”
Ryan was so mad at her words, he felt like he was going to spit blood.
His eyes went red.
He shot back, “I’m still more useful than you, lazy bum!”
“Oh? But this lazy bum doesn’t even have an ability. So that leaves the second–to–last useless one–you–to do this experiment.”
Cecelia crossed her arms and squinted slightly. Her words got even sharper.
Mainly, she was just annoyed.
Otherwise, she could have used this chance to let Ivy absorb the crystal first.
But Ryan’s interference had wasted the opportunity!
Ryan was fuming. “You’re the real useless…”
“I’ll do it.” Hendrick cut him off.
He took the crystal from Timothy’s hand and, under everyone’s surprised eyes, looked at Cecelia. “All I have to do is focus my mind?”
Cecelia paused for a moment, a bit surprised.
After all, Hendrick had been thinking about how to get rid of her just that morning.
And now he’s already believing her?
She furrowed her brow slightly and nodded. “Yeah. Just imagine it’s a power bank. Focus your mind and use your ability to draw from it, control it.”
“Hendrick?”
Timothy looked at Hendrick with a doubtful expression.

Hendrick wasn’t stupid. He had already noticed everything Cecelia had done earlier.
When Ivy said she would try first, Cecelia didn’t react at all.
But when Ryan interfered, she seemed unhappy.

There was only one possible explanation–the crystal must be useful!
Why Cecelia had suddenly changed her attitude, Hendrick didn’t understand.
But he did know that she wouldn’t harm Ivy.
