Chapter 36 The Level 2 Threat

The level 1 zombie Hendrick had just killed was clearly faster than a regular zombie. It wasn’t blind. making it slightly harder to deal with. Even so, it still wasn’t nearly as dangerous as a level 2 zombie.
The only thing that slowed Hendrick down was digging out the crystal. It was his first time doing it, and he wasn’t used to the process yet, so it took him a little longer than expected.
But the real problem wasn’t the crystal.
When Hendrick killed the level 1 zombie downstairs, another level 1 zombie on the floor above had seen everything from the window.
By the time Hendrick finished pulling out the crystal, the zombie upstairs had already disappeared from sight.
If they didn’t move fast, it might escape.
Without wasting time, Cecelia and Ivy followed Hendrick into the building.
Most houses in this small town were simple residential buildings, usually four or five stories tall. Earlier, they had seen the level 1 zombie appear at a third–floor window. Cecelia remembered the exact floor clearly.
But as soon as the three of them stepped inside, they ran into a couple of regular zombies first.
Hendrick reacted instantly. His blade flashed through the air. The two zombies that rushed out from a second–floor room were cut down before they could even get close.
They continued upstairs and soon reached the third floor.
There were two rooms facing the hallway.
Hendrick frowned slightly, hesitating for a moment.
“Let’s deal with the one on the left,” Cecelia said calmly. “I’ll open it.”
She reached into her pocket, pulled out a thin wire, and stepped forward. Sliding the wire into the keyhole, she twisted it with practiced ease.
Hendrick and Ivy both stared in surprise.
Click.
The lock opened.
It had taken only a few seconds.
Cecelia immediately moved on to the second door and worked the wire again. Without looking back, she said quietly, “Get ready. It might attack the moment this opens.”
“Got it,” Hendrick replied.

There was no time to ask how she knew how to pick locks. He focused his mind and formed a wind blade
in his hand.
Crack.
The second door swung open.
“GIT!”
A low, harsh growl came from inside the room.
Cecelia instantly ducked her head.
Hendrick’s eyes sharpened. The moment he saw the level 1 zombie, he struck.
The upgraded wind blade cut through the air with terrifying speed.
Before Cecelia even had time to look up, she heard a dull thud.
A head rolled across the floor and stopped right in front of her feet.
The level 1 zombie’s pale red eyes stared upward, frozen in death.
Cecelia didn’t even glance at it.
A sudden chill ran down her spine. The hair on the back of her neck stood up. She shouted immediately, “Hendrick! There’s another mutated zombie inside! level 2!”
The words had barely left her mouth–Bang!
A bedroom door inside the room burst open. A level 2 zombie smashed through it and charged out.
Hendrick’s face changed instantly. Without hesitation, he rushed forward to fight.
Cecelia looked up at the fierce struggle between the man and the zombie, confusion rising in her mind.
This town wasn’t large.
Yet today they had already encountered several level 1 zombies.
And now even a level 2 had appeared.
The number of mutated zombies here was far beyond what she expected.
Ivy clutched Cecelia’s arm nervously. “Cece, what do we do? That’s a level 2 zombie! Hendrick already used a lot of his ability earlier. If this keeps going, he might—”
“He’ll manage,” Cecelia said firmly. “It shouldn’t be a big problem. Ivy, stay here and keep watch. I’ll go help
him.”
After giving the warning, Cecelia stepped into the room.

The place was already in complete chaos.

The space was about 1,000 square feet, but even that wasn’t enough for Hendrick to fully take advantage of his wind ability.
Cecelia tightened her grip on the dagger in her hand.
But she didn’t rush in.
She needed the right timing.
If she attacked too early, she might miss her chance.
Hendrick stayed focused on the level 2 zombie in front of him. Although he had already reached level 3, he had used up too much ability earlier. Now he could only barely keep up with the level 2 zombie’s attacks.
His breathing grew heavier. He instinctively touched the pistol at his lower back. But he immediately dismissed the thought.
This wasn’t the villa.
If he fired a gun here, the noise would attract more zombies.
And now that level 2 zombies were appearing in town, if the gunshot brought even more of them…
“Hendrick! I’ll distract it! Use the level 1 crystal you got earlier and recover your ability!”
Cecelia’s voice rang out clearly from behind him.
Hendrick was startled.
Before he could react, a figure rushed past him at lightning speed and charged straight toward the level 2 zombie.
“Are you insane? Do you want to die?”
Hendrick scowled; he grabbed Cecelia’s arm and tried to pull her back.
Cecelia shot him a sharp look. “If you don’t hurry up and recover your power, the three of us are dead anyway.”
Hendrick fell silent.
His brows tightened.
In the end, he released her arm and stepped back into the corner of the room.
Quickly, he pulled out the level 1 crystal he had just collected and began absorbing its energy.
The crystal worked quickly.
Hendrick closed his eyes and focused completely on restoring his ability. He didn’t look at Cecelia or the
