Chapter 51 The Smell of Rabbit Stew
After hearing Timothy speak, Cecelia understood something.
Zera wasn’t just good at her performance. She was good at seducing men too.
But her tricks were rushed. Sloppy.
And worst of all, she had picked the wrong people.

Timothy finished handling the two rabbits. One went straight into a pot. Soon, a rich rabbit stew bubbled over the fire for breakfast.
The other rabbit he salted and marinated, then he sealed in a jar. They could roast it later after they found a place to stay for the night.
He asked Regina to call Ryan back to eat.
Ryan refused. He had gotten stubborn about catching a rabbit. If he didn’t catch one himself, he vowed he wouldn’t eat.
Timothy’s face darkened. He told Matthew, “Go tell him this. If he likes chasing rabbits that much, he can stay here and keep hunting. The team will leave without him.”
The threat proved to be effective. Ryan ran back at full speed.
He clearly believed Timothy might really abandon him in this empty middle–of–nowhere.
Cecelia enjoyed the rabbit stew happily.
Once again, she had to admit it. Timothy was an excellent cook.
But the smell of the stew drifted through the air and soon attracted Brian and the others..
The three of them stared at the steaming bowls in everyone’s hands and swallowed hard.
“Hmm, Timothy…” Brian forced himself to speak, even though it felt awkward. “We are hungry.”
Zera’s eyes were slightly red as she glanced at the pot of rabbit stew.
The smell drifted straight into her nose.
She couldn’t stand it. She quickly looked away and clenched her hands tightly to hold herself back.
Amber was just as tempted, but she didn’t even dare raise her head to look at Timothy’s group.
Timothy glanced at Brian. Then he told Matthew, “Give them something to eat.”
After finishing his stew, Timothy set down his disposable bowl. He looked at Brian and said calmly, “We’ll reach the next town before noon. When we get there, you can find your own food.”
Brian nodded quickly. “Understood!”

He accepted three bottles of milk and some bread from Matthew, thanked him several times, and headed back toward the car.
Zera bit her lip. She looked at Timothy’s group as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Ryan shot her a sharp glare. Like a dog guarding its food, he slammed a lid over the pot of rabbit stew. “What are you still standing there for?” he snapped. “This rabbit isn’t for you.”
Zera froze. Her face flushed red in embarrassment. She hurriedly went after Brian.
Cecelia watched everything with a faint smile.
She already knew what Zera had been trying to do.
After preparing all night, Zera had probably just tested whether her “pitiful girl” act would work.
Clearly, it hadn’t.
This team didn’t fall for that kind of trick. Ryan especially. He was like a temperamental guard dog. He only respected strength. Gender meant nothing to him.
And he protected food like his life depended on it.
Back when he disliked Cecelia, he even complained when Ivy gave her food.
Now, Cecelia had barely earned a place in the group.
As for Zera and the other two? They were complete outsiders.
Ryan didn’t even like sharing food with Cecelia after traveling together for over a month.
There was no chance he would share it with strangers.
Zera’s little act had failed completely.
Cecelia watched her climb into the car. Her eyes narrowed slightly with amusement. If sympathy didn’t work, Zera’s next move would probably be dividing them one by one.
Zera returned to the car looking humiliated.
Brian felt sorry at this. “Don’t think about it too much,” he said gently. “Right now we’re the ones asking for help. We just have to endure it for a while. Once we reach the next supply point, we’ll gather our food. Then we won’t have to depend on them.”
“Mmm…”
Zera’s eyes reddened again. She looked at him hurtfully. “Brian, the people in their team are really harsh. I only looked at the rabbit stew for a moment. We haven’t had fresh meat in so long.”
Brian sighed softly. “Hey, stop thinking about it. Eat first. Later I’ll find you more food–canned meat.

sausage, whatever I can.”
“But Brian…”
Finisher
Zera looked worried. “They need supplies too, right? Food like that must be valuable now. If they’re so strong, will they really let us collect supplies?”
Brian fell silent.
When he first saw Timothy’s team escape the zombie horde in Sylcreek without losing a single person, he had already guessed they were not ordinary people.
