“Mmm…”
Zera chewed on the bread in her hand, but her thoughts were elsewhere.
The bread was dry and bland.
When she glanced over and saw Cecelia eating rabbit stew, she swallowed hard.
Finished
Frustration flashed in her eyes. She clenched her teeth and thought she had to find a way to join Timothy’s
team.
Living day after day on bread, instant noodles, and oatmeal was driving her crazy.
She was sick of it.
In the back seat, Amber had heard the conversation between Brian and Zera.
She said nothing. The girl simply ate her bread and drank some milk.
For her, having food and not starving was already good enough.
She wasn’t greedy.
The rabbit stew smelled amazing, but she never once thought about asking for
any.
The apocalypse was cruel. Timothy and the others owed them nothing. They weren’t family or even friends.
The fact that they hadn’t driven them away already was kindness.
Amber glanced at Zera.
She chewed her bread with clear resentment on her face. Amber couldn’t help thinking Zera was being greedy.
After breakfast, the group got back on the road.
Cecelia yawned.
She curled up in the back seat, found a comfortable position, closed her eyes, and slipped into her blank space again.
Among everyone in the team, she was probably the most hardworking.
Whenever she wasn’t fighting outside, she trained inside the blank space.
Four hours in the real world meant twenty days inside the space.

In those twenty days, she trained nonstop.
By the end, every drop of cobalt fluid in the pool had been drained.
Not a single drop remained.
Finished
Cecelia stared at the empty pool and let out a helpless laugh. Then she reluctantly left the blank
space.
The blank space could stretch time, but it clearly had limits.
The fluid in the pool was that limit.
If she trained until all her energy was gone and didn’t absorb the fluid, the exhaustion would hit even harder than in the real world. Recovering would take much longer.
It was strange.
Almost like the space had its own rules. Only after absorbing the fluid would the fatigue truly disappear.
The system worked like a balance.
Training drained her body. The fluid restored it.
And she had discovered something even more interesting.
The first time she pushed herself to complete exhaustion, the fluid she absorbed let her train for five hours.
The second time, she trained for ten hours.
The third time, she trained for fifteen hours.
Each round was stacked on top of the last.
Once the pool was emptied, it slowly began filling again.
Drop by drop. But Cecelia still didn’t know how long it would take for the pool to refill completely.
The car came to a stop, and Cecelia opened her eyes.
She looked down and squeezed the muscle on her arm.
Another thing puzzled her.
Even after all that training in the blank space, her muscles in the real world hadn’t grown much.
Her body looked almost the same as it had a few days ago.
But the strength she felt was real.
Maybe that was the special trait of the blank space ability.
At least it wouldn’t turn her into some bulky bodybuilder.

Cecelia rubbed her chin.
In her previous life, her muscles had been firm and well–shaped. Her skin had a healthy bronze tone, and her whole body carried a quiet strength.
The only problem had been the scars. There had been too many of them. Her body doesn’t look beautiful.
Girls cared about their looks, after all.
This blank space ability seemed to understand that perfectly.
Get ready to get out.”
From the driver’s seat. Timothy unbuckled his seatbelt and spoke quietly,
Cecelia looked out the window.
Ahead of them was the entrance to a small town.
A few zombies wandered near the road.
To keep heading toward Briar City, they would eventually need to get on the highway,
But the highways weren’t always clear.
Sometimes they had to take smaller roads through towns.
The road they were on now cut straight through this one.
Small towns didn’t have large populations, so the number of infected zombies was usually manageable.
And now that they knew zombie crystals could upgrade abilities, Timothy and the others had changed their plan.
They were no longer rushing toward Briar City.
Stopping along the way didn’t bother them anymore.
