Villainess Ascendant: Apocalypse Edition
Chapter 53 A Quick Clean–Up
Simply put, if they wanted something, they had to find it themselves.
Timothy’s team would not help. If trouble came, they would not step in either.
They were not the same team. Letting them tag along was generous in a world like this.
Brian’s face brightened at once.
Honestly, he had been waiting for Timothy to say exactly that.
Now the rules were clear. No one could accuse them of stealing supplies later.
Of course, they did not rush into town.
They decided to wait until Timothy’s group finished clearing the nearby zombies first.

About an hour later, Cecelia saw Timothy and the others return.
Their method for clearing zombies was simple but effective.
First, Hendrick–who ran the fastest–would scout the area and count the wandering zombies.
Then they would mark off a section of land and lure the zombies into it.
After that, Ryan would set the area on fire and burn the trapped zombies all at once.
It sounded easy. In reality, it required perfect teamwork.
Some zombies would break free. When that happened, Hendrick had to rush in and kill them by hand.
They had been using this method for over a month.
Normally it took at least two hours, but today was faster.
Hendrick had just reached level 3 ability, and the whole process sped up.
When Ryan came back, he looked at Hendrick with clear envy. “I wish I could reach level 3 like Hendrick.”
Timothy glanced at him and said, “When we get another level 2 crystal, you can use it to upgrade.”
“Thanks, Timothy!”
Ryan grinned from ear to ear. His excitement showed immediately.
Then he strutted over to Cecelia. “You probably wouldn’t understand what it feels like to have an ability,” he said smugly. “Some lazy bum might never know in this life.”
“Wow,” Cecelia replied calmly.

She crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at him. “Honestly, sore loser, I’ve been holding back because I didn’t want to hurt your feelings.”
Ryan froze. Then he glared at her. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Cecelia shrugged. “As a teammate, let me give you some advice. Next time we pass a town, find a pig and
cat some pig brains. People say you become like what you eat. You really need it.”
With that, she grabbed Ivy’s arm and walked toward their safe house, not even glancing back.
Ryan stood there fuming.
He almost ran after her to start a fight.
But then he remembered the elbow she had given him two days ago.
She said it was an accident. It definitely didn’t feel like one.
Ryan instantly lost the courage to chase her.
Instead, he turned to Matthew and started complaining. “This is unbelievable! That lazy bum says I don’t have a brain. Who does she think she is?”
Matthew looked at him quietly.
This wasn’t about brains. The real problem was simple. Ryan just couldn’t compete with Cecelia.
After watching them for the past few days, Matthew had reached a conclusion. Those two weren’t at the same level.
Ryan was like an angry dog with its fur standing up.
Cecelia, on the other hand, was a sly cat that didn’t even bother taking the dog seriously.
Poor Ryan kept getting played. Yet every time, he still rushed forward to argue.
Honestly, he kind of deserved it.
Still, from the sidelines, Matthew had to admit something.
Watching them argue was pretty entertaining.
When the group returned to their safe house, Timothy glanced at Brian.
“Didn’t you say you were looking for supplies?” he said. “Just head farther into town. We cleared the zombies outside, but we didn’t check inside the buildings. What you run into there is your problem.”
Brian forced a smile. “I understand. Thanks, Timothy.”
Then he led Zera and Amber toward a small convenience store down the street.
Timothy didn’t pay them any more attention.

He had other things to deal with.
Timothy left Matthew, Cecelia, Ivy, and Regina at the shelter.
Then he took Hendrick and Ryan back into town. They planned to search for mutated zombies.
After both groups moved far enough away, Cecelia turned to Ivy.
“Ivy, I’m heading out for a bit too.”
Ivy already understood she wanted to hunt mutated zombies. “If you’re going alone, be careful,” she said seriously.
“I will.”
Cecelia put on her baseball cap, popped a lollipop into her mouth, and walked out.
Matthew and Regina watched her leave but didn’t ask anything.
They had seen how she performed recently.
She wasn’t reckless enough to go out and get herself killed.
Since Ivy didn’t stop her, neither would they.
Even if she ran into a level 2 zombie, Cecelia could handle herself.
But this time, after leaving, she quietly followed Brian’s group for a while.
She watched the three of them search a small convenience store.
The place was tiny. They turned it upside down and found nothing.
Zera’s eyes turned red with frustration. “No wonder they didn’t bother searching here,” she complained. “There isn’t any food! What are we supposed to eat today? Are we supposed to go beg them again?”
Brian tried to calm her. “Zera, let’s walk a little farther into town. There should be other stores.”
“I’m not going,” Zera snapped. “I’m tired. I’m going back to rest. If you want to keep looking, go by yourself.”
She huffed and stormed off.
Brian hurried after her. “Alright, I’ll walk you back. Amber and I will come out again.”
Zera said nothing.
From the corner of a building, Cecelia watched quietly.
The three of them headed back toward the shelter.
After Zera returned, Brian and Amber left again to search for supplies.

Cecelia wandered around for a while.
Then she slowly circled back toward the shelter on purpose.
