Chapter 54 The Stolen Lollipop
Finished
Zera crouched by the doorway, glancing inside again and again, as if waiting for someone to come out.
When Regina and Ivy stepped outside, she acted like she didn’t see them.
But the moment Matthew walked out, Zera stood up at once.
Just as he passed her, Zera’s legs suddenly buckled.
She stumbled forward and fell straight into him.
Matthew reacted on instinct and caught her. A second later, Zera collapsed against his chest.
She looked weak and unsteady, as if she might faint.
“S–sorry…” she said softly. “My blood sugar dropped a little.”
“Oh.”
Matthew had never even held a girl’s hand before.
Now a girl had suddenly fallen into his arms. His face turned bright red, and he had no idea what to do. Flustered, he helped her sit in a nearby chair.
The moment she was seated, he turned and hurried back toward the house.
But Zera grabbed his sleeve. Her eyes looked slightly red as she gazed up at him. “I don’t feel well. Could you give me a piece of candy?”
Matthew panicked. He pulled his arm back at once. “W–wait here.”
He rushed inside, asked Ivy for a lollipop, and quickly brought it back.
Zera took it with a bright smile. “Thank you. You’re such a kind person.”
Matthew’s face burned even hotter. His ears turned red. He didn’t dare look at her again. He spun around and hurried back into the house.
Zera watched him run off. A confident smile slowly spread across her lips.
Cecelia raised an eyebrow.
Just as she thought.
Zera had started her plan to pick them off one by one.
Her first target was Matthew,
Unfortunately for her, a plan that goes too smoothly is no fun.
Cecelia narrowed her eyes.

Then she slowly walked toward Zera, chewing her lollipop.
Finished
At the doorway, Zera played with the lollipop in her hand, feeling very pleased with herself.
See? No matter the man, a few small tricks were enough to hook him.
Matthew’s reaction proved it.
He was clearly a clueless rookie who had never dated before.
Just a few words from her, and he handed over candy.
Before the apocalypse, a lollipop meant nothing.
If a man had given her one back then, he would’ve gone straight onto her list of boring admirers.
But things were different now.
Earlier, Brian had searched a small convenience store. Forget about candy; he couldn’t even find half a bottle of water.
In the apocalypse, any food was valuable. Even a lollipop.
And with one simple trick, Matthew gave her one right away.
He had even asked another woman for it.
That meant Matthew was already hooked.
She had wrapped him right in her hand; he was easy to control.
Zera felt pleased with herself. Tricking Brian into turning back earlier had been worth it.
Just as she started to unwrap the lollipop, someone suddenly appeared and snatched it away.
Zera froze. She looked up.
Cecelia stood in front of her, eyes full of cold amusement. “You stole the lollipop my sister saved for me?”
Zera blinked in shock.
First the candy was taken, then she was accused of stealing.
She quickly waved her hands. “No! I didn’t steal it! Matt gave it to me!”
“Matt? Since when do you get to call him that?”
Cecelia stuck the lollipop in her mouth and narrowed her eyes, staring at Zera like a villain. “Call him. I want to know why he has the lollipop Ivy saved for me.”

“What’s going on?”
Timothy and the others had just returned.
Brian and Amber followed behind them.
Finished
Zera trembled. Her face turned pale. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She looked wronged. “I–I didn’t steal
it.”
She began to cry.
She looked fragile and pitiful.
And the more pitiful she looked, the more Cecelia seemed like the villain.
“Zera!”
Brian rushed forward and wrapped his arms around her. “What happened? Who bullied you?”
Zerą glanced at Cecelia, then quickly lowered her head as if frightened. Tears kept falling.
But inside, she was thrilled.
What a perfect opportunity!
