Villainess Ascendant: Apocalypse Edition
Chapter 57 Drama in the House
Inside the small house, Brian carried the unconscious Zera to the couch and laid her down.
He turned to Amber. “Go and get me some water.”
“Okay,” she said quietly and began searching the house.
She headed toward the kitchen.
The moment she pushed the door open-“Ah!”
A middle–aged female zombie burst out with a hoarse scream.
Amber shrieked and ran back toward the living room in horror.

Brian’s expression changed. He grabbed a wooden stool and threw it at the zombie. Bang! The stool hit it hard.
But the zombie felt no pain. “Grrr!”
It staggered forward, heading straight for Brian and the unconscious Zera.
Brian clenched his teeth and looked around for a weapon.
The kitchen. There had to be a knife there. He tried to lure the zombie toward it.
The zombie suddenly turned and lunged at Zera on the couch.
“Zera, run!” Brian widened his eyes in horror and shouted.
“Grrr!”
The zombie voice hovered right above her.
Zera could no longer pretend to be unconscious.
She opened her eyes and saw the decaying face inches away. She screamed. Her face went pale as she rolled off the couch and fell to the floor.
“Zera!”
Brian rushed into the kitchen, grabbed a kitchen knife, and ran back. He swung it hard at the zombie’s head.
Crack!
The blade sank into the back of its skull.
The bone split, but the zombie still moved. Slowly, it turned toward Brian and bared its rotten teeth.
“Grrr!”

Then it lunged at Brian.
“Brian!”
Amber had run outside when the zombie appeared.
But when she turned and looked back into the house, she saw the zombie jump at her brother.
Her heart nearly stopped, and she shouted panickedly.
She rushed back inside, grabbed the nearest object, and smashed it down on the zombie’s head.
Bang!
The zombie collapsed by her sudden force.
Amber gasped for breath and shouted to Zera. “Go get another knife from the kitchen!”
Zerą stared at the zombie.
The knife stuck in its skull. The foul liquid was leaking out.
Her face went even paler. She backed away in panic. “I–I’ll get help!”
Then she ran out the door.
Amber’s face changed.
Brian was still struggling with the zombie. The kitchen was too far away.
Without thinking, Amber rushed forward and yanked the knife from the zombie’s skull.
Splurt!
Foul liquid sprayed out.
The blade was covered with blood and brain matter.
Amber swallowed the urge to vomit. She lifted the knife and chopped hard at the zombie’s neck.
Crack!
The head came off like a rotten cabbage.
The zombie’s claw froze mid–air as it tried its last effort to hurt Brian. Then, it stopped moving, and its body slowly fell to the side.
Brian panted as he climbed to his feet. He quickly checked his arms. No scratches. No bites.
Only then did he breathe out in relief.
When he looked up, Amber was still holding the knife. Her whole body trembled.

“Amber…”
He hurried over and gently took the knife from her hand. “It’s okay. I’m here. You did great.”
“Brian…”
Amber shook with fear. She trembled all over. “I–1 killed a zombie.”
“Yes,” Brian said softly. “You did. That was your first one. You did really well.”
He kept encouraging her.
Amber bit her lip until she tasted blood. She clung tightly to his hand and refused to let go.
Brian looked at her pale face and sighed.
This was his fault. For the past month, he had protected both Zera and Amber.
He never let them face zombies.
But today he had almost died.
