Chapter 60 The Breakthrough
“But it was her-”
Finished:
Ryan felt completely wronged. He tried to argue, but Timothy shot him a warning look. Ryan had no choice but to shut up. He clenched his teeth, sat down, and glared at Cecelia,
If looks could kill, Cecelia would already be cut into pieces.
“Alright.”
Matthew took the crystal. He remembered the method Cecelia had explained earlier. Slowly, he activated his ability and tried to connect with the crystal.
The next second, he felt a strange power spill out of it.
The energy rushed into his palm and flowed straight into the channels inside his body.
It was fast. Too fast.
He couldn’t control it.
The power filled his ability channels in seconds. They swelled with a sharp, aching pressure.
“Well?” Cecelia said with a faint smile, glancing at Ryan. “Who said crystals were useless? Looks like he’s about to break through.”
Ryan froze.
He stared at Matthew.
Matthew’s eyes were shut tight. His face had turned red, exactly the same way Hendrick looked when he upgraded his ability.
Ryan was dumbfounded.
Matthew was the same level as him. Both of them were level 1.
But Matthew could level up, but he couldn’t feel the energy inside the crystal?
Ryan sat there in a daze.
The blow hit him hard. His chest felt heavy, and he couldn’t calm down for a long time.
Timothy and Hendrick were both surprised when Matthew suddenly began to upgrade.
They had always believed only level 2 crystals carried enough energy to help someone level up.
But now it was clear. level 1 crystals worked too.
Matthew’s upgrade was quick.

Chapter 60 The Breakthrough
Three minutes later, the red flush on his face slowly faded.
Finished
He opened his eyes. They were bright and clear. Looking at Timothy and the others, he tried to hide his excitement. “I’m level 2 now!”
Those words were the final blow for Ryan.
He jumped to his feet. His face looked terrible as he rushed outside.
“Ryan?!” Timothy’s expression changed at once. He stood up quickly.
“You guys keep going. I’ll bring him back.”
Then he hurried after Ryan.
Ivy sighed and glanced at Cecelia. “You know Ryan can be childish. Why do you keep pushing him?”
Cecelia tilted her head and blinked innocently. “Ivy, I’m just telling the truth. And if he’s a kid, what about me? Didn’t you just say I’m always a little girl in your eyes?”
“You always twist things,” Ivy said with a helpless laugh, flicking Cecelia lightly on the forehead.
Cecelia only grinned playfully.
Hendrick watched her for a moment, thoughtful. Then he took out another crystal and handed it to Regina. “Give it a try.”
“Okay!” Regina’s eyes lit up.
Ever since Matthew succeeded, she had wanted to try as well.
She just wanted to ask Timothy about it, but he had run off chasing after Ryan.
That left her a little annoyed.
Luckily, Hendrick remembered her.
Regina quickly took the crystal. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and focused while gripping it tightly.
A few seconds later, a familiar red flush spread across her round face.
She was upgrading.
Hendrick’s eyes flickered as he glanced at Cecelia. “So Ryan really does have a problem?”
“Why would I say it if it weren’t true?” Cecelia replied with a sigh. She twisted open a soda and took several big gulps.
Hendrick narrowed his eyes slightly. “So what usually causes something like that?”
“After an ability awakens,” Cecelia explained, “your body forms ability channels. They store and carry ability energy. But since everyone’s ability is different, their channels are different too.”

She leaned back in her chair.
“That means everyone needs a different amount of energy to level up. But one thing helps a lot. If you often drain your ability completely, it becomes casier to upgrade.”
“That makes sense,” Matthew said. He scratched the back of his head, looking embarrassed. “My earth ability isn’t great in combat. But when we go out, I usually use it to build a cooking stove. Just making the stove drains almost all my energy. Now that I’m level 2, I feel like I could build a wall or maybe a dirt barrier for defense.”
As for turning his earth ability into something stronger in battle, he still hadn’t figured that out yet.
Hendrick said nothing. He simply gave Cecelia a long, thoughtful look.
Regina opened her eyes and smiled. “I’m level 2 too!”
“Congratulations, Regina,” Ivy said warmly, truly happy for her.
Regina nodded and said, “And my ability channels feel much wider than before. I think leveling up again will be harder.”
She wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry.
Cecelia narrowed her eyes and unwrapped another lollipop. She popped it into her mouth and said, “That’s what I mean by individual differences. It usually depends on how strong the ability becomes later.
Abilities like ice, wind, fire, lightning, and metal were all highly destructive.
For those abilities, the first requirement for leveling up was having a body strong enough to handle the
power.
As for Timothy and Hendrick, there was no need to worry about them. Once those two took off their shirts, their eight–pack abs were impossible to miss.
