Chapter 72 We Can’t Let It Escape
“Shit! level 3?!”
Ryan’s face instantly changed.
Timothy didn’t look much better.
Finished
Based on Cecelia’s earlier analysis of zombie levels, a level 3 zombie usually required at least three or four level 3 ability users working together to defeat it.
But in their group right now, only he and Hendrick were level 3.
Timothy had already used up more than half of his ability just now. He immediately thought of something and turned to Ryan. “Go dig out a zombie crystal for me!”
Ryan remembered the pile of mutated zombie corpses still lying on the second floor. He nodded and sprinted upstairs.
Cecelia gripped her dagger tightly, her eyes locked on the movements of the level 3 zombie and Hendrick.
Both were incredibly fast.
She could barely keep up with their movements.
For now, they were evenly matched.
But Hendrick’s ability would eventually run out.
Within a few minutes, the level 3 zombie would gain the upper hand.
When that happened, Hendrick would be in danger.
Cecelia pressed her lips together and decided to step in.
With a dagger in one hand and a gun in the other, she quickly loaded the gun.
Then, under Timothy’s shocked gaze, she dashed straight toward the level 3 zombie at incredible speed.
When Ryan came running downstairs with two foul–smelling zombie crystals, he saw the scene. “Shit! Is that lazy bum trying to get herself killed?!”
Timothy glanced at him. “Find a way to help them.”
Then he grabbed the crystal and began absorbing its energy.
In less than a minute, the crystal was completely drained.
It was just enough to temporarily replenish his ability channel.
Meanwhile, Hendrick’s ability was nearly exhausted, and he still hadn’t finished off the zombie.

Cecelia, however, seemed to be gaining the upper hand.
Although she hadn’t cut off the zombie’s head, she had managed to sever one of its arms.
The level 3 zombie became furious after losing an arm. It immediately shifted its target to Cecelia.
Sweat poured down her face.
This level 3 zombie was far tougher than she had expected.
So far, the two of them had only managed to cut off one arm.
Finished
And unlike ability users, zombies didn’t suffer from ability exhaustion. It could attack endlessly without slowing down.
Hendrick paused to catch his breath, sweat covering his forehead. Just then, Ryan’s voice suddenly rang out behind him. “Hendrick! Catch!”
A filthy crystal flew toward him.
After catching it, he immediately began absorbing its energy. At the same time, his eyes stayed locked on Cecelia, who was fighting the level 3 zombie.
Cecelia was good at drawing a zombie’s attention and even better at dodging their attacks.
In just a few seconds, she had already avoided at least three fatal strikes.
The zombie’s claws clearly aimed for her neck every time.
One swipe could rip open the carotid artery. Blood would spray everywhere. For zombies, that was the ultimate delicacy.
Meanwhile, Cecelia never stopped moving. Without anyone noticing, she had lured the zombie more than 30 feet away, out onto the road.
Timothy had finished absorbing the crystal and quickly rushed toward the level 3 zombie.
Cecelia seized the opportunity to grab the zombie’s remaining arm and slam it to the ground.
Seeing that, Timothy immediately launched an ice blade.
But the level 3 zombie was incredibly cunning. It tore off its own arm to escape Cecelia’s grip, barely dodging the ice blade.
She stared at the useless severed arm in her hand and nearly cursed out loud.
Timothy stepped forward and helped her up. “Are you okay?”
She wiped the sweat from her forehead, breathing heavily. “I’m fine. We can’t let it escape! Now that it’s lost both arms, the three of us can finish it together!”
“Got it,” Timothy responded and immediately chased after the fleeing zombie.

Hendrick finished absorbing the crystal and followed.

Soon, they saw that Timothy had cornered the level 3 zombie outside the same house where Brian had died.
The zombie, whose skull was partially sliced open by Hendrick earlier, let out furious roars.
Finally, it was hit by another wind blade from Hendrick. This time, it struck the zombie’s left leg.
Another ice blade followed. It hit the zombie squarely in the waist.
Cecelia slowed to a stop while watching. It seemed she didn’t need to step in anymore.
The level 3 zombie had already lost both arms because of her. Its strength had dropped significantly.
Now, with Timothy and Hendrick attacking together, it didn’t even last two minutes.
A wind blade finally sliced off the zombie’s head.
Thyd.
Its head hit the ground and rolled several times, stopping right at Cecelia’s feet.
Her lip twitched slightly.
Why did it suddenly feel like she had just picked up a huge reward for free?
After all, this level 3 zombie had only just evolved. It wasn’t a fully developed level 3 mutated zombie yet.
Otherwise, even the three of them working together would have struggled to defeat it.
Hendrick wiped the grime from his hands after using the crystal and looked at Cecelia while catching his breath. “It’s dead.”
“Yeah.”
Cecelia bent down and swiftly dug the crystal out of the zombie’s brain.
She stepped on it and rolled it against the dirt.
The brain matter stuck to it got covered in soil and rubbed off. The crystal’s true appearance gradually emerged.
Hendrick looked closely and noticed something. Half of the crystal was dark red. The other half was dark red, tinged with black.
“A level 3 crystal?”
“Yes. But it hasn’t fully evolved yet. We got lucky.”
She wiped the sweat from her forehead and looked back toward the safe house. “Let’s head back first. We can talk about the rest later.”

Hendrick walked over and casually picked up the level 3 zombie crystal she had just cleaned with her foot.
“Alright.”
