Apocalypse God Mode: Unlocked (Cecilia) novel Chapter 8

Cecilia jolted awake around 4a.m.

She shot upright in bed.

Ivy had just woken up and was about to get out of bed when Cecilia's sudden movement startled her. "Cece?"

"Ivy?"

Cecilia's throat was dry. She stared at Ivy, still unsure whether this was real.

Ivy stepped closer and touched her forehead, asking gently, "What's wrong? Are you feeling sick? I think I heard you talking in your sleep. Did you have a nightmare?"

"Yeah."

That gentle tone pulled her fully back into reality.

Cecilia took a breath and forced a bitter smile. "It was a really bad dream."

She dreamed of how Ivy died in her last life.

The moment Sabrina shoved Ivy into the zombie horde.

She stood right there, watching helplessly as Ivy was torn apart, piece by piece.

She couldn't do anything.

She couldn't move. She couldn't scream. She was trapped in her own body like a puppet, unable to do anything.

All she could hear were Ivy's agonized screams and Sabrina's smug laughter.

For the next seven years, that scene haunted her nonstop.

It was that image alone that kept fueling her hatred for Brandon and Sabrina.

It was what kept her alive for those seven miserable years, just waiting for a chance at revenge.

When she self-detonated, she was sure Brandon died.

But Sabrina had been standing farther away.

And one of Sabrina's admirers had a high-level healing ability. Even with just a breath left, they could still save her.

There was a good chance Sabrina hadn't died.

The thought left Cecilia feeling annoyed and regretful.

"Dreams are the opposite of reality," Ivy said softly. "Don't overthink it, Cece. Get up. We're leaving at 4.30 a.m."

"Okay."

Cecilia nodded and got out of bed.

Ivy sat on the edge of the bed, watching her.

She could clearly feel that her sister had really changed since yesterday.

Right now, she had only one wish—that Cecilia would behave, stop causing trouble, and that today's mission would go smoothly.

The scheduled meetup time was 4.30 a.m.

But by 4.15a.m., everyone was already gathered downstairs.

Regina had even made instant noodles for everyone.

When Cecilia came down with Ivy, Timothy and the others were already there.

"Tsk. So the freeloader finally decided to cut off that messy mop? Didn't you swear you'd rather let zombies chew your head off than cut your hair?"

Ryan crossed his arms and immediately started mocking her when he noticed Cecilia's clean, short ponytail.

Cecilia touched her hair, ignoring his sarcasm, and asked calmly, "Does it look good?"

"Fuck! You actually have the nerve to ask that? You're ugly as hell, freeloader!"

Ryan cursed with a look of disgust.

Cecilia snorted and glanced at him. "With taste like yours, you definitely didn't have a girlfriend before the apocalypse."

Her words instantly made Ryan's ears turn red. "I'm not listening to your bullshit! You're ugly. You're the ugliest one on the whole team!"

"Ryan, you're just saying the opposite of what you feel. Don't deny it. Before the apocalypse, this face of mine would've been something you stared at on your phone and computer screen all day."

Cecilia spoke as she sat down, completely unaffected by his insults.

Seeing Ryan about to snap again, Ivy hurried to smooth things over. "Ryan, Cece's just joking. Don't take it seriously. Eat first."

Then she tugged on Cecilia's arm. "Cece, what did you promise me?"

Cecilia went, "Oh," then said, "If he shuts up, I'll shut up."

Being passive-aggressive wasn't exactly a rare skill.

Ryan's forehead veins started twitching.

He stared at Cecilia, grinding his teeth. "Just wait. If I get the chance, I won't let you off easy!"

Seeing her agree, Timothy finally withdrew his gaze and said in a deep voice, "Get ready to move."

"Wait."

Cecilia suddenly stood up.

Everyone froze.

Timothy frowned and looked at her. "Do you have another question?"

Cecilia nodded.

She pointed at Northbank on the map. "This place is about 60 miles from here too. It's closer than Southridge, and there's also a large supermarket there. Why not go here instead?"

The moment she said that, even Ivy was stunned. "Cece..." Didn't she promise not to cause trouble?

Cecilia looked at her innocently.

She wasn't causing trouble.

She was just asking a question.

"Hah. You didn't even look at what kind of area Northbank is. You have to cross a bridge to get there. Look at the time we're in now. You think bridges are safe? You'll go there and never come back."

Ryan crossed his arms and sneered.

"Cece..."

Ivy frowned and quickly grabbed her arm. "Don't cause trouble. Timothy chose Southridge after thinking it through."

Thinking it through, my ass.

Cecilia felt helpless.

But right now, she had to find a way to stop them from going to Northbank.

She looked up at Timothy and Hendrick and pointed to an area next to the supermarket. "There's a police station here. If we go this way for supplies, we can check the station too. What if there are guns?"

As soon as she said that, Timothy and Hendrick's expressions changed.

Ryan mocked her. "There's nothing marked on the map. Freeloader, what kind of stunt are you pulling now?"

"Just because it's not marked doesn't mean it doesn't exist."

Cecilia turned slowly to Ivy. "Ivy, three months ago, I went to a classmate's place. She lives near here. When we went out for late-night food, we ran into some thugs. I smashed a beer bottle over one of their heads, and you were the one who bailed me out. Remember?"
