Cecelia patted his head like she was petting a dog. His hair felt soft and clean.

But a second later, she suddenly thought of something and quietly pulled her hand back.

She had just killed zombies. She hadn’t even washed her hands yet, and she touched someone’s head. That was pretty gross.

Jerome didn’t say anything.

“Let’s go.”

Cecelia grabbed his arm and pulled him to his feet.

When she walked past the level 3 zombie’s head, she casually dug out the crystal inside it.

She asked Jerome on purpose, “Do you know what this is?”

Jerome nodded. “It’s something ability users can use to level up.”

“You studied this stuff before?”

“My parents used to research how humans and viruses might evolve together and survive side by side. This was one of the theories. None of us expected the theory to actually come true.”

Jerome spoke calmly, but Cecelia could clearly hear a hint of sadness in his voice.

That was normal.

Jerome was still human. Losing family never felt easy. It was like when she lost Ivy in her last life.

Cecelia stopped thinking about it. She put away the crystal and said, “Let’s go. I’ll take you to meet my team first.”

Jerome followed behind her at an easy pace.

But he kept thinking about the name he had just heard in her thoughts–Ivy.

It sounded like Cecelia’s sister.

Jerome narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked at her back. He suddenly became curious.

On the way back, Cecelia didn’t forget to pick up Amber.

Amber was overjoyed when she saw Cecelia return. “Cecelia!”

“This is Jerome Lincoln,” Cecelia said. “I just saved him. He’s my brother!”

She had just decided to keep Jerome in the team under the identity of her younger brother.

Amber froze for a moment and looked at Jerome.

Her first question was, “Cecelia, does he have an ability? Should we…”

“No need.”

Cecelia shook her head. “He’s different from you. He’s good at other things.”

“Oh.”

Amber looked at Jerome with curiosity for a few seconds but didn’t ask more questions.

She trusted Cecelia. Cecelia wouldn’t bring back useless people.

Jerome didn’t look much older than her. He looked quiet and gloomy, but he probably had some special skills.

Jerome stayed expressionless. From beginning to end, he didn’t even look at Amber.

He simply followed closely behind Cecelia.

Amber quickly caught up with them.

While the three of them were walking back, they ran into Timothy, who was coming their way.

“Cecelia?”

Timothy looked surprised when he saw Cecelia with Amber–and a strange young man beside them.

Cecelia spoke casually, “I took Amber out to hunt zombies for training. On the way we ran into another survivor group. My brother Jerome happened to be with them.”

After she finished, she pulled Jerome closer. “Come on, let me introduce you. This is our team leader- Timothy Shaw!”

Timothy looked stunned. Before Jerome could speak, Timothy asked Cecelia, “Since when do you have a brother?”

“I’ve always had one! He’s my cousin!”

Cecelia lied without even blinking. She smiled at Timothy. “I’m lucky. My cousin and I were able to find

As for Jerome’s real identity, she had no plans to tell Timothy or the others.

The fewer people who knew about the zombie virus cure, the safer it would be.
