Chapter 1
Seven years after leaving the Darkclaw Pack, I returned for the first time to attend the Wolfmoon Rituals.
It was the first time I’d seen my nominal older brother, Alpha Harrison Cole, in seven years. We exchanged a
silent look, both unsure of what to say.
During the event, my former adoptive father, Alpha Richard, patted me on the shoulder, “Willow, it was a difficult decision to have you move out back then. Please don’t hold it against me.”
“You’ve returned just in time. Harrison’s mating ceremony is next week.”
I understood what Richard was implying.
I pressed my lips together and raised my glass to Harrison. “Congratulations, Harrison. Wishing you a happy
marriage.”
Harrison, however, was staring at the diamond ring on my left hand. He froze for a moment.
Beside him, Luna Sophia spoke up in surprise, “Willow, where did this diamond ring come from?”
I glanced at the different expressions on their faces and gave a slight smile. “It seems I forgot to mention, I formed my mate bond seven years ago.”
Richard furrowed his brow slightly, “Seven years ago? You were only twenty then. Who did you bond with?
This is reckless!”
“We were your adoptive parents, after all. How could you not tell us about something so important?”
Seven years ago, they had asked me to leave-politely, on the surface.
In truth, I was driven out for supposedly seducing my brother.
That was why I never informed anyone in the Darkclaw Pack about my bonding.
Still, Richard and Sophia had raised me for fifteen years. I couldn’t bring myself to hate them.
I looked at Richard calmly, “That’s exactly why I brought my mate back this time, so you could finally meet
him.”
Sensing the tension, Sophia quickly stepped in to smooth things over, “Willow, we appreciate you thinking of us. That means a lot. Where is your mate, though?”
I kept my smile polite, “Something came up last minute. He’ll be about two hours late.”
As drinks were poured and toasts made, I could feel Harrison’s eyes following me constantly.
Growing impatient with my pointed indifference, he finally spoke up, “Dad, Mom, Chloe’s about to finish trying on the wedding dress. I’m going to pick her up.”
He then lightly tapped the table in front of me, “You haven’t met Chloe yet, so come with me to pick her up.”
Chapter 1
I had planned to decline. But under the scrutinizing gazes of Richard and Sophia, I reluctantly agreed.
I knew they were still concerned that I hadn’t gotten over my old feelings for Harrison.
On the way to the garage, Harrison broke the silence first, “So… how have you been these years?”
I didn’t even look at Harrison, casually responding, “Fine.”
Harrison’s steps faltered for a moment. He seemed to want to say more but held back, eventually quickening
his pace to catch up.
Reaching the car, Harrison opened the passenger door for me, acting as though it was second nature.
But I ignored him, directly sitting in the back seat.
Harrison furrowed his brows, “Are you treating me like your chauffeur?”
I turned my head, avoiding his gaze, “Shouldn’t you be picking up your fiancée? Let’s go.”
Harrison sighed, returning to the driver’s seat, “You can just call her Chloe.”
I stared out the window at the passing scenery, silent.
The rest of the drive passed in silence, and soon we pulled up in front of the bridal boutique.
The moment the car stopped, the door beside me was pulled open from the outside.
“Why are you so late?” a woman in a deep brown coat said, sliding into the passenger seat with a light, familiar complaint. “Harrison, I had no idea trying on wedding dresses could be so exhausting!”
“You’ll come with me again tomorrow, right? I still can’t decide.”
Harrison leaned in to fasten her seatbelt, his eyes full of affection and tenderness, “No problem, sweetheart. Let’s get you home to rest. I had the staff prepare something nourishing for you.”
