Chapter 6

His voice was cool and smooth, the kind that slipped into one’s ears and drew out a strange, involuntary

fondness.

“Sorry, I-”

“The people I sent are already at the airport,” he said. “They will bring you to me.”

I was about to explain that the flights had been bought out when I saw it. A sleek, black-winged predator of a

jet sat idling on the tarmac, its engines a low growl that vibrated in my marrow.

Several large, powerful werewolves stepped out of it and stood respectfully in formation.

“Good.” I let out a quiet sigh. Maybe everything truly was guided by fate.

I walked out of the airport. Rain poured down in silver sheets. The moment I stepped outside, an umbrella

appeared above my head.

The person holding it kept his head lowered. He looked like an elder, and he didn’t dare meet my eyes. His

tone was reverent.

“Luna, we have come to bring you home.”

Luna? Didn’t Lucian Frost want a plaything?

Before I could ask anything, Silas broke through the security line. He surged forward through the rain and

grabbed my wrist. “Freya, come with me.”

The elder who greeted me must have been a high-ranking elder from the Icefield Pack. He smiled politely, but

his face revealed nothing.

“Respectfully, Silas Thorn,” he said, “she now belongs to our pack. Please let her go.”

Silas’s fury erupted. “This is my territory. I want to see who dares take her from me.”

He turned to me. “Your family is sending you away. Why didn’t you tell me?”

I let out a soft laugh. How could he not know? He had always known my fate. If he did not choose me, I

might be mate with some ordinary wolf or handed to a powerful Alpha as a plaything.

He knew. He simply never chose differently.

“Silas, you protected me for so many years, and I truly am grateful. But at this point, I cannot turn back.”

I had already signed the contract the Icefield Pack sent. What I did not expect was that Lucian Frost wanted a

Luna.

“Who said you can’t turn back?” Silas snapped. “If you stay, I will hold a mating ceremony with you

tomorrow.”

I looked at him. His hair was disheveled, his eyes red at the rims, desperation streaked across his face.

I was grateful for everything he had done for me. But when he handed the Moonlily to Vivian… that was when our paths diverged forever.

“Silas, you know what the Bonding Gala means. All twenty southern packs know. Giving Vivian the flower declared her your Luna.”

“Who wants to mark a random she-wolf?” he growled. “Even if I mark someone, it would never be her.”

My heart dimmed. Silas had always loved me more than others, but he respected me less than anyone. He always compared me to someone else. Always put me second.

This time, all hesitation vanished. I turned and walked straight toward the jet.

The elder stepped in front of Silas. “Our time is up. Today we are here to bring Luna home.”

Silas stood there, shaking with rage, his eyes burning.
