Chapter 8

Leo panicked the moment he saw her leave.

He threw Lily a vicious look and barked, “You’d better pray nothing happens to Liora. If anything does, I won’t let this go.”

Then he rushed after her without another word.

The moment he disappeared, my heart sank. A cold sweat broke out across my forehead.

This scene overlapped perfectly with my previous life.

I had been so careful, so cautious, determined not to repeat the same path. I hadn’t said a single cruel word

to Liora this time.

So why was it still happening?

Dominic noticed how pale I was and frowned with concern. “Riley, what’s wrong?”

My whole body trembled as I stood up unsteadily, instinctively wanting to go after them. Dominic immediately followed.

I couldn’t get a car. I was pacing anxiously when Dominic pulled up in front of me.

“Where are you going? I’ll take you.”

This was too urgent to refuse. I got in and gave him the address.

Sure enough, what happened next was exactly the same as last time.

When we arrived, Liora was already standing on the rooftop. She was crying uncontrollably, stroking her stomach and apologizing to the pup over and over again.

My nerves snapped tight.

“Liora, don’t do this!” I shouted. “Calm down and come down right now. Don’t hurt yourself or the baby!”

She lifted her tear-filled eyes to look at me, full of despair and heartbreak.

“Riley, why is it that no matter what I do, I can never compare to you?” she cried. “You told him to buy me a new ring, so I asked. He said rings are just decorations and don’t mean anything. But the ring you have has your names engraved on it. It even has the date of your mating ceremony.”

She was right.

The bond ring Leo gave me had been personally designed by him. He oversaw every step of the process.

Inside were our names, the date of our mating ceremony, and a single line:

[Forever in love. Bound for life.]

And yet, what did that matter?

Time dulled passion. All that was left was numbness.

“Liora,” I said quietly, letting out a bitter laugh, “do you really think that proves he loved me?”

I looked at her steadily. “If he truly loved me, would he have been with you at all?”

Leo only loved himself.

“But he treats you differently,” she cried. “When you left, he was lost. He stopped spending time with me and

the baby. He sat alone in your room every day, waiting for you to come back. He even went to the Moon

Goddess temple every day to pray for your safety.”

Her voice shook with grief as she spoke.

She truly loved Leo. Even without a title, even in the shadows, she was willing to stay by his side.

What she couldn’t accept was that his heart never truly belonged to her. She also couldn’t bear how the outside world judged her.
