Chapter 9

Liora stood on the rooftop, one step from the edge, her body swaying in the wind.

Leo’s heart clenched so violently it felt like it might shatter.

“Liora,” he pleaded, his voice breaking. “Please. Come down.”

I saw it clearly then.

He was terrified.

And that fear had nothing to do with me.

I took advantage of the moment. While his attention was completely on her, I pulled out the bond-breaking deal I had prepared long ago.

“Leo,” I said, calm and precise, “what Liora needs is certainty. This is the bond-breaking deal. Sign it, and she’lloria will feel safe.”

Dominic moved instantly, placing a pen in Leo’s hand as if he had rehearsed the moment.

I pressed harder.

“She’s pregnant with your child. Her life and the pup’s life depend on what you choose right now. So choose.”

Hope flickered in Liora’s eyes. She watched him without blinking, her breath shallow.

Leo froze.

His shoulders trembled as he turned toward me, eyes hollow, voice low.

“Riley,” he asked, almost broken, “why are you pushing me too?”

I felt the last trace of patience drain away.

“You already know why,” I said. “The moment you betrayed our mate bond, this outcome became inevitable. Sign it.”

Doubt flickered across his face.

Right on cue, Liora swayed again, letting out a frightened gasp.

That was enough.

Leo grabbed the bond-breaking deal, signed his name without another second of hesitation, and rushed toward her.

“I signed it,” he said urgently. “Liora, please. Come down.”

I checked the signature, then nodded.

Only then did Leo carefully guide her away from the edge, his hands shaking as he supported her.

When she collapsed against his chest, sobbing, something inside me finally loosened.

This time, the ending was different.

The tragedy from my past life did not repeat itself.

I had won my freedom.

I felt like laughing, but tears slid down my face instead.

Dominic’s expression cooled. His tone sharpened.

“What is it?” he asked. “Regretting it now? Suddenly don’t want to break the mate bond?”

I wiped the tears away and lifted my face toward the sunlight, smiling.

“No,” I said. “I’m just happy. Too happy.”

Liora remained emotionally unstable, and Leo did not dare delay any longer. The very next day, we met at the

Lycan Tribunal to officially complete the process to break the mate bond.

When we walked out, Leo looked exhausted. He forced a crooked smile.

“Riley,” he said quietly, “I’m sorry. I broke my promise and hurt you. I hope you find happiness. I hope the rest

of your life is peaceful.”

I accepted his words without comment.

I glanced once at Liora waiting for him in the car, then turned away and left.

As soon as I got into my own car, Dominic handed me a bouquet of vivid red roses.

“Congratulations,” he said. “You’re free.”

I accepted the flowers with a smile. “Thank you.”

For the version of me who died in my past life, this truly was rebirth.

Not long after, I joined another round of medical relief missions with the team.

During breaks, Lily often called me with gossip.

This time, she was especially animated.

“Liora had a daughter not long ago,” she said. “And that trash Leo already found a new she-wolf. A she-Beta who kind of looks like you. He’s obsessed with her.”

“Liora’s furious. She keeps taking the baby to the Elder Council, crying and making scenes. It’s public now. Their pack’s reputation is taking a hit.”
