Chapter 1
Nine years into being bonded to Alpha Julian, he still had never taken me to the annual pack banquet.
This time, I didn’t bother dressing up.
I didn’t ask him to take me back to the pack house.
I didn’t ask to see my daughter.
I fixed his tie, smoothed the collar of his shirt, and stepped back like the obedient woman he preferred.
Julian tipped my chin up with two fingers, studying me. There was approval in his eyes.
“You’ve been good lately,” he said. “As a reward, I’ll bring Tyla to visit you.”
Reward.
The word scraped against something raw inside me.
The day Tyla was born, he carried her straight back to the pack house to please his mother, Agnes.
“Once my mother accepts the pup,” he had told me, “she’ll accept you as Luna.”
I had believed that lie for nine years.
Until yesterday.
Yesterday, I shifted and slipped onto pack territory under cover of night.
No one ever expected the Alpha’s mate to sneak in like a rogue.
I saw him on the balcony outside the pack hall.
Julian had Serena, his Beta, wrapped in his arms. His voice was low, intimate.
“Sweetheart.”
He had never spoken to me like that.
And my daughter… my little girl… was clinging to Serena’s leg, calling her Mommy.
That was the moment something inside me broke clean in half.
Back in my apartment, I scrolled to a number I had blocked nine years ago.
I stared at it for a long time before pressing call.
“I accept,” I said when he answered. “I’ll be your Luna. Pick me up tomorrow.”

Silence.
Then a quiet, satisfied laugh.
“Finally done playing house?” he said. “Good. I’ll call a pack meeting tonight. Welcome home, my Moon Queen. I’ve been waiting for you.”
My hand trembled after the call ended.
I had run from him back then. I thought leaving meant freedom. I thought I could build something safe with
Julian.
These nine years had proved how wrong I was.
“You’re going out tomorrow?”
Julian stepped out of his study, watching me carefully.
“I’ll have Mark drive you.”
My heart skipped.
I forced a light smile. “Sofia wants to go shopping. She already arranged a driver.”
He studied me for a long moment. The silence stretched tight between us.
Then he tossed something onto the table.
A maid uniform.
“My mother’s stomach has been acting up again,” he said. “Be careful. Don’t let her see your face.” He
paused. “If things go smoothly, I’ll let you see Tyla.”
Let me.
I picked up the uniform. My fingers had gone pale.
Agnes had never hidden her hatred for me. To earn her approval, I went to witches outside pack territory and
learned basic healing rituals. I brewed medicinal broths myself.
The first time I brought one to her, she threw the bowl against the wall.
Julian had tried to defend me.
I stopped him.
I told him I didn’t want to cause tension between him and his mother.
So I put on an Omega maid’s uniform and entered my own mate’s pack house through the servants’ door.
At some point, Julian stopped pretending.
