When Johnny and Kaitlyn got dragged out, panic slammed into them like a punch.
"Where are you taking us?"
"Mr. Goodwin, detaining someone against their will is literally a crime."
"Mr. Goodwin—"
Before they could get another word out, two guys clamped a hand over their mouths, cutting off their nonstop babbling.
Janet watched them disappear down the hallway with zero sympathy, mostly just intrigued. "Mr. Goodwin, are they involved in Maddie's disappearance?"
Sam let out a low grunt, then went quiet again.
Janet stared at his stone-cold reaction and, for once, couldn't think of a single comeback. He was still the same ridiculous king of double standards, and it was exhausting.
Even so, she felt a small wave of relief. If Sam already had a lead, finding Madison was only a matter of time.
Just as that thought crossed Janet's mind, two bloodcurdling screams ripped through the air. It scared her so badly she shuddered.
She shot another look at Sam and found his face completely blank, like he hadn't heard a thing.
…
Meanwhile, inside one of Goodwin Corp's subsidiaries, Ethan checked a message from the men he had assigned to watch Sam.
Sam was back, and as soon as he returned, he had Johnny and Kaitlyn dragged away.
Ethan needed only a second to figure out exactly what Sam was playing at. It was clear Sam already knew the truth behind everything.
Luckily, Ethan had kept his distance from day one, and he had already set someone up to take the blame. He instructed his men to keep watching Sam without blowing their cover, then ended the call.
…
After brutal and relentless torture, Johnny and Kaitlyn confessed to everything.
Brett laid out everything he had heard. "Johnny said someone promised to erase his debt, so he bribed a maid at Northcrest Villa to steal Goodwin Corp intel.
"After that, when he and Kaitlyn found out you didn't care about Ms. Quinn anymore, they planned to stage a car crash and use the whole lifesaving stunt to fix things with Madison.
"But he swears he doesn't know where Ms. Quinn went. He thought you were the one who took her. I already sent people to dig into the hotel's background, and we're applying to pull surveillance from around the hospital."
Sam ran his thumb over the face of his watch, saying nothing.
After hearing all of it, Janet finally connected the dots. Madison had been turned into a weapon against Sam, but no one expected him to be sharp enough to have a backup plan.
Johnny and Kaitlyn assumed he no longer cared about Madison and tried to use that to win her back, but someone else reached her first.
