Back in Time to Fall for Him novel Chapter 130

Janet's words struck harder than Madison expected. Her fingers curled into the blanket without her noticing. Before she realized it, she was thinking of Sam.

Was Sam avoiding Madison because he was already disappointed beyond repair?

But in her previous life, she had married Johnny, handed over the entire Quinn Group, and Sam still hadn't given up on her. So why was it that after she came back and changed everything, he was the one drawing the line?

Madison couldn't understand. Confusion filled her eyes.

Janet noticed her drifting and waved a hand in front of her face. "Hey. Earth to Maddie. What are you thinking about?"

Snapping back to reality, Madison grabbed Janet's hand urgently. "Jan, can you take me to Sam?"

She needed answers. She needed to know why Sam seemed ready to let her go this time, when he never had in her past life.

Seeing her childhood friend on the verge of tears, Janet couldn't bring herself to refuse. She called a few bodyguards for help and took Madison out of the hospital.

What they didn't know was that as soon as they left, Sam received word. After the kidnapping, he had secretly arranged for several bodyguards to watch Madison from the shadows.

Ten minutes later, Madison and Janet were standing at the door of Sam's hotel room. Janet knocked on the door, and it soon opened.

Sam stood there in a charcoal-gray suit. The moment he saw them, his brows tightened. "Didn't I tell you to stay in the hospital and recover?"

He was speaking to Madison.

She lifted her chin and met his eyes without backing down. "I asked Jan to bring me. There's something I need to tell you."

But he still picked the carbonated drink she liked. Maybe things weren't as hopeless as she feared. She clutched the bottle a little tighter, quietly reassuring herself.

Then Sam sat across from her. "You said you wanted to talk. What is it?"

Madison lifted her gaze, took a deep breath, and asked the question she had been dying to bring up. "Sam, are you avoiding me?"

"No. Things piled up over the past two days. I just haven't had time." He lied, his expression never shifting.

But it wasn't completely untrue. Sam still hadn't finalized Project ET's contract, so he was in constant contact with their Marowai partners. Moreover, William had sent Ethan to headquarters just to make trouble.

Madison didn't know any of that. She only heard the pause in his voice. "Sam, did you know you always pause for a few seconds before you lie?"
