Back in Time to Fall for Him novel Chapter 129

The moment Madison met Janet's worried gaze, the tears she had barely managed to hold back rushed out again.

"Hey, why are you crying again? I didn't even do anything to you!" Janet yelped, startled as she scrambled for tissues.

She shoved a wad into Madison's hands, still flustered. Madison whispered a thank-you, wiped her cheeks, and pushed herself upright on the bed.

She had just settled when Janet frowned. "Why are you here alone? Where's Mr. Goodwin?"

Madison's voice was hoarse from crying. "Sam's tied up with company matters. There was a caregiver, but I wanted some peace, so I let her rest."

But as soon as Madison finished, Janet instantly noticed something was off. She looked over quizzically. "You fought with Mr. Goodwin, didn't you?"

Madison hesitated for a moment, then shook her head. "No."

"Oh, please. I know you. And that face is not the face of someone who didn't argue."

Janet rolled her eyes dramatically. Then her curiosity got the better of her. "Come on. What did you two fight about this time?"

Madison stared at her, speechless. "Why do you assume I fought with Sam? Why can't it be Sam fighting with me?"

Janet snorted. "If Mr. Goodwin ever picked a fight with you on his own, the sun would rise in the west."

And before Madison could say another word, Janet kept going. "Don't tell me it was because of Johnny and Kaitlyn."

"Then what is it?" Janet pressed, refusing to drop it.

Madison didn't know how to answer, so silence felt safer.

When she suddenly fell silent, Janet frowned again. "Why aren't you saying anything?"

"I don't know how to explain it. Jan, please stop asking." Madison looked at her pitifully.

Janet studied her for a long moment, the gossip finally fading from her face. "Fine. I won't ask what happened between you and Mr. Goodwin. But since we grew up together, let me tell you something.

"No one waits forever, especially someone who's been hurt too deeply. And when that person walks away after being disappointed enough, even if you realize your mistakes later and regret everything... it doesn't mean you'll be able to get them back."
