On the way back, Madison thought about how she had been taken away by the police on her very first day at the company. She couldn't help but sigh.
"What's wrong?" Sam turned to look at her.
Madison glanced up at him with a pout and said, "I originally wanted to give those traitors at Rivenhall a show of strength today, but I got hauled off by the police instead. It's so embarrassing."
Sam was speechless. He hadn't expected her to care about that. But upon further thought, he found it understandable.
So, he comforted her. "It's fine. Now that Johnny's been locked up, you still gave them a show of strength."
Madison thought it over and realized it was true.
Right after, she remembered she had gotten out so quickly thanks to Sam. She lunged over and hugged him, calling sweetly, "Sam!"
Sam felt a tingling sensation in his ears. He looked down at her and asked, "What is it?"
Madison was just about to thank him when a ringtone cut her off. It was Sam's phone. However, he had no intention of answering it.
Madison swallowed the words that she had wanted to say and asked, "Aren't you going to pick up?"
Sam gazed at her intensely, then took out his phone. It was a call from Sienna.
"What is it?" he asked. His voice sounded somewhat cold and tinged with displeasure.
Sienna didn't pick up on it and hurriedly said, "Mr. Goodwin, bad news. Mr. Goodwin Senior is here. He said if you don't get to the company within half an hour, he'll convene the board and elect a new CEO."
It turned out William hadn't been able to reach Sam. On top of that, Sam had been defying him lately. Enraged, William had stormed into Goodwin Corp.
If Sam still refused to listen, William intended to dismiss him directly from his post at the company. He wanted to make Sam understand that without his support, he was nothing.
As she finished, she felt oddly relieved.
She carefully watched William's expression. As expected, she saw his face become as dark as a thundercloud.
"That bastard! Does he really think I won't dare dismiss him?" William cursed through gritted teeth.
The hand clutching his cane tightened so much that his knuckles went white.
Sienna felt her heart leap into her throat. At the same time, she knew this was her chance to make a good impression on the old man.
"Mr. Goodwin Senior, Sam might be held up by something. How about this? I'll go find him and persuade him to come back," she said, deliberately making excuses for Sam.
Addressing Sam by his name, she subtly reminded William that she wasn't just Sam's secretary. She was also the daughter of a family that had been close with the Goodwins for many years.
