Back in Time to Fall for Him novel Chapter 62

Listening to Sam's question, Madison counted on her fingers as she answered, "I binge-watched shows for two hours this afternoon, then took a nap, and went to the kitchen to help prep dinner.

"Sam, I made one of the dishes tonight. Later, see if you can guess which one."

Her playful voice filled the air, and Sam's fond laugh softened the air of the grand villa until it finally felt like home. After a quick tidy-up, Sam followed Madison into the dining room and took a seat.

"Sam, your stomach's sensitive. I asked the head chef to make a soothing soup. Have a bowl before dinner. It's good for your stomach."

Madison ladled a bowl of soup and set it within his reach. Every look she gave him was full of concern.

Sam paid no attention to the bowl of soup at his elbow. His eyes were on the small cut on Madison's fingertip. Small as it was, it still stood out against her fair skin.

He knit his brows, took her wrist, and asked in a voice laced with concern, "How did this happen?"

He remembered that her fingertip hadn't been injured when he put ointment on her last night.

Hearing the concern in his voice warmed Madison like honey. "Sam, I'm fine. I just nicked myself while chopping."

As she spoke, she pulled her hand back without fuss and sat down again. Her eyes sparkled as she urged him, "Sam, try the soup. Tell me what you think."

He held her gaze for a long moment, a flicker passing through his eyes. Then he looked down, lifted a spoon, and took a taste. As expected, he knew the chef hadn't made it.

Watching him taste it, Madison couldn't help asking, "Sam, how is it? Does it taste okay?"

Sam didn't answer right away. Instead, he finished the soup.

After dinner, since Sam still had work to handle, he got ready to head to the study. Before he left, he reminded Madison, "Turn in early tonight. Starting tomorrow, you're coming to the office with me."

"I know, Sam. You should turn in early, too."

Madison looked back at him, her eyes warm with a smile. She rose on tiptoe and brushed a kiss against his lips. Then, she stepped back and gave him a playful wink. "That's a goodnight kiss."

Sam lowered his gaze, taking in the way her eyes were smiling. Then his gaze fell to her rosy lips, and his Adam's apple bobbed.

He wanted to pull her into his arms and show her a real goodnight kiss, but the memory of last night made him hold himself back.

His voice came out low and husky. "Don't forget to put your ointment on before you sleep."
