Johnny refused to believe Madison would turn him down. He glared at the receptionists. "How could Madison possibly refuse to see me? It has to be your CEO messing with things!"
The receptionists didn't know Johnny personally, but they were familiar with his name. Everyone knew Madison had hurt Sam over and over because of Johnny.
So when they heard Johnny bad-mouthing Sam again, their professional composure cracked.
One of the receptionists called toward the entrance, "Security! Someone's causing a scene. What are you waiting for? Get him out!"
Security in uniform closed in on Johnny in no time. "Sir, you need to leave now."
"I'm not leaving. I'm seeing Madison!"
He wasn't leaving without seeing her. He whipped around and sprinted for the elevators.
Everyone hesitated for a beat before rushing after Johnny and calling for backup to cut him off.
"Stop!"
"Block his way!"
At the commotion behind him, Johnny only ran faster. A hard glint flashed in his eyes as he rammed past anyone who tried to block him.
He reached the elevators at last. He jabbed every button, but not a single door opened.
Right then, the people chasing him caught up with him. When the burly security guards lunged at him, his expression hardened.
On instinct, Johnny grabbed the small potted tree by the elevators and shoved it into their path. While they flinched, he slipped through the gap and broke free.
If this got out, people in their circle would have a field day laughing at Sam behind his back.
With that in mind, she set her jaw and stood. "Since he wants to see me that badly, I'll go down and meet him."
"No!" Sam blurted out.
Then, as if he'd realized he'd refused too quickly, he cleared his throat and tried to explain, "I mean, you don't have to force yourself to see him. I'll get someone to show him out."
Only he knew he was terrified she'd be fooled by Johnny's sweet talk once more.
Madison didn't know exactly what Sam was thinking, but she had an inkling. She walked over to him, arms coming up around his neck as she pressed a light kiss to his cheek.
"Sam, I know you can make him go, but I won't drag you into trouble. I'll go down and tell him straight so he stops coming around to bother us."
