As the senior executives demanded Madison's dismissal and even went as far as to threaten Sam, her heart raced uncontrollably. She dug her nails into her palm, forcing the sting to ground herself.
If she panicked now, things would only spiral further out of control.
She forced herself to calm down and looked straight at Sam. "Sam, I don't know how those things ended up on me, but I swear I never bought anything like that. You can check my transaction records if you don't believe me."
Her words had barely fallen when the room erupted again.
"Maybe you didn't buy them yourself. Perhaps you had someone else do it."
"Ms. Quinn, stop making excuses. Everyone here knows what kind of person you are."
"Exactly. The only time you ever come here is when you need something from Mr. Goodwin. You wouldn't even be working here otherwise."
"We were well aware of your motives. Unfortunately, Mr. Goodwin trusted you again, and we're all paying the price."
The barrage of accusations left Madison speechless, unable to defend herself. Her chest tightened painfully. She had truly done nothing this time.
Sniffling softly, she lifted her tearful gaze at the man at the head of the table who had remained silent throughout the ordeal. "Sam…"
But Sam didn't look up. His left hand idly turned the watch on his right wrist, and his lowered gaze made it hard to tell what was on his mind.
His silence only made the unease in her chest spread like wildfire.
Before she could speak, Benjamin interrupted, "Mr. Goodwin, we've just heard from Mr. Herman. He found nothing unusual."
At that, Madison's eyes lit up. She rushed to Sam's side and grasped his arm. "See, Sam? I didn't betray you!"
