Back in Time to Fall for Him novel Chapter 97

After leaving Goodwin Corp, Madison's first instinct was to hire someone to investigate the household staff at Northcrest Villa. After scrolling through her contacts, she realized she had no one she could trust.

That was when it hit her. In both her past and present lives, she had relied too heavily on Sam. Without him, she had no connections and no network of her own.

She made a silent vow then and there. Once this was over, she would start building her own circle of people she could trust.

But for now, Madison had to ask for help.

Half an hour later, Janet arrived, dressed in an elegant cream tweed suit. She took off her oversized sunglasses and sat across from Madison, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

"Well, well. Look who remembered I exist. Let me guess—you've landed yourself in trouble again and need my help?"

Her words were a test. Janet had already seen the morning's headlines about Goodwin Corp. Given Madison's past, it wasn't hard to assume she had had a hand in it.

Madison heard the edge in her tone and managed a stiff smile. "Yes, I do need your help, Ms. Burke."

The distant formality in her tone made Janet laugh. "Oh, so it's Ms. Burke now? Do we know each other that well? And you expect me to help you just because you asked?"

Madison fell silent. She knew Janet was still upset with her distant tone. She gave a small, helpless laugh. "I only said that because you haven't forgiven me yet. What if you get mad at me for acting too chummy with you?"

Janet gave a soft, unimpressed hum, though she seemed to accept the answer. Then her tone grew sharp again. "This wouldn't happen to have anything to do with what went down at Goodwin Corp today, would it?"

"Yes, it does." Madison nodded.

Janet had suspected as much, but hearing her admit it made her blurt out, "Madison, are you out of your mind?

"I do." Madison nodded, feeling a faint relief at her question. That meant Janet was willing to help.

She explained, "When they searched me, they found several recording devices. But I've been staying at Northcrest Villa this whole time.

"The only people who could've touched my clothes were the staff there. I need your people to investigate them for me. Also, find out who Johnny and Kaitlyn have been meeting lately."

In her past life, none of this had happened. Madison had no idea if Johnny and Kaitlyn had already made contact with the Goodwin family members who wanted Sam dead.

Janet didn't know the full story. She opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off by the sudden ring of a phone. It was Johnny calling.

Madison's eyes narrowed. She shot Janet a look, silently signaling her to wait, then answered. She wanted to know exactly what he was up to this time.
