The moment she entered a private room, she saw Johnny sitting inside, scrolling on his phone. He looked up as the door opened.

Seeing her, he immediately pocketed his phone and stood. "Maddie, you're here."

As he spoke, he stepped forward, trying to take her hand. Madison ignored him, brushing past him to the other side of the booth and sitting down.

Johnny glanced at his outstretched hand. A flicker of irritation crossed his eyes before he quickly masked it with his usual gentleness.

He took his seat again. He pretended not to notice Madison's aloofness and slid the menu toward her. "Have a look, Maddie. See if there's anything you'd like to eat."

She eyed the menu he was offering, then looked at the overly attentive man across from her. Her brows arched slightly, but she didn't refuse.

A few minutes later, after placing her order, she waved the server away and turned her gaze on him. "You said you came to pay me back. Where's the money?"

Johnny's expression fell into something wounded. "Maddie, is that really all that's left to say between us?"

The aggrieved look in his eyes made it seem like she had wronged him instead of the other way around. To Madison, it was laughable and disgusting.

She sneered, "What else should I say?"

"Maddie…"

"Johnny, I told you not to call me that," she cut him off coldly. "And one more thing. If you didn't actually come to repay me, you'll be receiving a letter from my lawyer very soon."

At that, the smile on his face almost slipped. His jaw tightened before he forced a faint grin. "I'm really here to pay you back."

He reached into his jacket and pulled out a check, sliding it across the table. "There—80 million dollars."

Madison lowered her gaze. Sure enough, the number written on it read 80 million dollars. Her brows lifted slightly.

She didn't take it right away, studying him with an unreadable expression. "Where'd you get that kind of money?"
