Back in Time to Fall for Him novel Chapter 100

Madison narrowed her eyes at Johnny. "Why not? You claim you got that money by selling what I gave you. I asked you to introduce that buyer of yours, but you keep making excuses."

At her words, Johnny's expression faltered before he composed himself again. His face twisted into hurt. "Madison, I can't believe you think so little of me after everything we've been through."

"What else am I supposed to think?"

A mocking smile tugged at the corners of her lips when she saw his reaction. She leaned back, her arms folded across her chest.

"Did you really think I'm still the same fool you could wrap your finger around with a few sweet words?"

Johnny's heart skipped a beat the moment she said that.

The look in her eyes and her calm smile made him feel as though every thought inside him had been stripped bare. He wanted to look away, but stopped himself just in time.

Avoiding her gaze would only make him look guilty, so he kept up the act. "Maddie, you've got it wrong. When have I ever lied to you?"

She almost laughed at his revolting performance. Still, she reined herself in and stayed on track.

Her gaze softened slightly, and she sneered. "No? Then explain the letter of forgiveness at the police station. And tell me where this money really came from."

She tipped her chin toward the check lying between them.

For a split second, Johnny's mask nearly slipped, but he quickly composed himself. "If you don't believe me, go ahead and look into it. As for the letter of forgiveness, didn't you file it because you couldn't bear to see me suffer?"

Madison's lips curled into a frigid smile. "I couldn't bear to see you suffer? If that were the case, I wouldn't have called the police in the first place."
