"You have absolutely no humanity!" Sienna glared at the older woman's smiling face, her grip tightening on her crutch.
"Ordering a violent crime in broad daylight, do you really think the Sterlings run the world? Is there no law anymore?"
She could never have imagined that this seemingly kind-faced old woman would use such despicable methods to threaten her, using the life of an innocent intern as a bargaining chip.
"The law? Hahaha..." Eleanor laughed theatrically. "In the Capital, the Sterlings are the law!"
Jarred's brow furrowed tightly, his voice low and heavy. "Eleanor, this doesn't involve innocent bystanders. You've crossed the line."
Eleanor just gave a dismissive chuckle. "You wouldn't let me hit her, wouldn't let me touch her. Fine, I've obliged you on everything. So now, what more could you possibly be dissatisfied with?"
Jarred's expression turned incredibly grim.
He knew Sienna too well. She seemed cold and fiercely independent, but she was deeply protective of the people around her. Threatening her using Lynn was more agonizing for her than stabbing her with a knife directly.
"You're using her friend to threaten her. That hurts her worse than hitting her."
"Making her hurt is exactly what I want!" Eleanor dropped her smile, her eyes turning utterly vicious.
"She caused Celeste agonizing pain, so I want her to feel that pain hundreds and thousands of times over! Sienna Sloan, I'm asking you, are you going to beg? If you don't grovel, I'll have them chop off one of this girl's fingers!"
Sienna stared dead at the screen, watching Lynn, whose face was pale as a ghost, tears streaming down continuously as she stood terrified to make a single sound.
She then looked back at Eleanor's completely unfeeling eyes, a wave of icy dread washing over her heart.
She had never seen someone so thoroughly evil. For the sake of revenge, they were truly capable of any atrocity.
What did human lives even mean to them?
Seeing her frozen in place without moving, Eleanor didn't hesitate for a second. She coldly barked an order to the bodyguards on the tablet. "Do it!"
"Hold it right there!"
Before the words had even completely left Eleanor's mouth, Sienna moved.
Despite relying on a crutch, her movements were as fast as a gust of wind.
"Watch me!" Sienna glared at her, her eyes as cold as ice. "The power of a Sterling stun baton... you know it better than I do.
If this goes off, I promise you, not even a miracle will be able to save this leg."
Jarred felt a sharp tightening in his chest at Sienna's reckless, death-defying move. He immediately stepped forward, trying to soothe the situation. "Sienna, don't do anything rash."
"Get away from me!"
But Sienna didn't even look at him. She pressed the stun baton down harder, and Celeste shrieked even more miserably.
"Eleanor was just scaring you, she wouldn't really hurt your friend."
Jarred kept his voice incredibly soft, terrified of provoking her, as he slowly edged closer to her. "First, put the stun baton down, and we can talk this through properly..."
Sienna finally turned her head to look at him.
The look in her eyes stopped Jarred dead in his tracks.
