Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 123

She checked the caller ID and tensed. It was the police station.

Sienna and Luna exchanged a glance before she quickly answered.

She listened quietly to the voice on the other end, nodding slightly.

"Yes... alright, I understand. Thank you."

The moment she hung up, Luna leaned in. "What did they say? Is there news?"

Sienna looked up, a glimmer of light finally crossing her eyes as she nodded. "They caught the ringleader. The police want me to head over and identify him now."

"That's great!" Luna practically jumped with excitement. "I'll go borrow a wheelchair and take you there!"

Luna quickly returned with a wheelchair and pushed Sienna out of the room.

As they reached the door, she purposely glanced toward the other side of the corridor and whispered to Sienna, "Jarred is definitely waiting outside the ward. Let's take the stairs on the other side and grab the elevator on the next floor so we don't run into him."

Sienna's lips curled up. "Okay."

Meanwhile, at the end of the hallway outside the room.

Jarred leaned against the wall, his tailored suit accentuating his tall frame. His handsome face carried its usual careless charm, but it couldn't hide the heavy gloom in his eyes.

Declan jogged over, looking thoroughly conflicted. "Mr. Sterling, Madam still refuses to see you... and Luna had the nurse pass along a message..."

Declan paused, looking at his boss with dread.

Jarred frowned. "Spit it out."

Declan lowered his head, gritted his teeth, and blurted it out in one breath. "She said to tell you to get the hell out, and that they don't need a dog who speaks for murderers sniffing around. Those were Luna's exact words."

Jarred's face darkened instantly, anger and a trace of barely concealed frustration swirling in his deep gaze.

He stared at the tightly shut door of the hospital room, a suffocating tightness seizing his chest.

No one noticed Celeste's hand quietly clenching into a tight fist beneath the covers.

"Someone actually tried to kill her?" Helena put down her apple in surprise. "Who has a death wish? Who would dare hire a hitman so openly these days?"

Jarred said nothing.

Helena thought for a moment and scoffed. "Then again, with Sienna's temper, refusing to ever back down and acting so arrogant, she makes enemies wherever she goes. It's not surprising someone wanted to teach her a lesson."

Jarred still didn't respond. He simply grabbed his jacket from the back of a chair and turned to leave.

"Jarred, where are you going?" Mrs. Sterling called out, looking displeased.

"The police station," Jarred replied without breaking his stride. "Sienna is going to identify the killer. I'm going with her."

"Nonsense!" Mrs. Sterling's face darkened instantly, her voice sharp with reprimand. "You should be keeping your distance right now, yet you want to insert yourself into this?"

Jarred halted and looked back.
