Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 124

Jarred's gaze landed on his grandmother's lined face, his voice indifferent. "Whether I keep my distance or not, she is my wife."

That single sentence turned Mrs. Sterling's face livid.

Helena ground her teeth in anger, glaring at her son's stubborn back, utterly frustrated by his foolish loyalty.

Celeste kept her head bowed, her eyelashes hiding the dark intent in her eyes.

A moment later, she looked up, slipping a sweet, understanding smile onto her face.

"Jarred," she called out to the figure about to vanish through the doorway.

Jarred paused and looked back at her, his brow furrowed. "What is it?"

"Grandma and Helena have been with me all day; they must be exhausted. You should take them home to rest first."

Celeste blinked, acting like the picture of empathy.

Even though she was the one trying to get rid of them, she masked it perfectly with flawless consideration.

Helena and Mrs. Sterling quickly waved their hands. "We aren't tired. We're staying right here with you."

"I know you care about me." Celeste lowered her eyes. "But I want to rest quietly for a while. You go home and relax. When I'm better, I'll spend plenty of time with you."

Seeing this, the older women couldn't bring themselves to insist, nodding in agreement.

Jarred immediately ordered Declan to escort them downstairs.

Inside the ward, it was just him and Celeste.

The moment Declan disappeared, Celeste stopped Jarred as he turned to leave.

"Jarred, I'm a little bored sitting alone in here. Could you take me to the police station for a ride?"

Jarred's frown deepened, a hint of impatience in his voice. "You just had surgery. Your leg is severely injured. It's not a good idea for you to be moving around..."

But before he could finish, Celeste slowly bowed her head, her long lashes trembling as her eyes immediately welled with red.

She looked overflowing with grievance but put up a brave front, her voice choking with emotion.

Walking out of the office with Luna, the two crossed the corridor toward the main entrance.

Luna was rambling beside her. "I want to see if Celeste can keep that fake face on tomorrow. Hiring a hitman isn't a small charge..."

Before she could finish, Sienna's wheelchair abruptly stopped.

At the end of the hallway, a figure had their back turned, pushing a wheelchair toward the stairwell.

A beige trench coat, shoulder-length hair, and a perfectly straight back that carried a sickeningly familiar elegance.

She would recognize that back anywhere.

"Luna." Sienna gripped the armrests of her wheelchair. "Wait a second."

"What's wrong?"

"Celeste!" Sienna stared intently in that direction. "I just saw Celeste."
