Luna froze, following the direction of her finger.
The empty corridor was completely deserted, save for the slow rattling of a janitor's cart.
She turned back, placing a comforting hand on Sienna's shoulder. "You must have imagined it. Celeste is still bedridden at the hospital. With an injury that severe, how could she be here?"
Sienna stayed silent, her eyes locked on that spot.
That profile, that posture... she was certain she hadn't misjudged it.
But Luna had a point too.
Sienna frowned slightly.
Aside from how terribly injured Celeste supposedly was before, the strike from the stun baton alone was enough to put her through hell.
Running around right now instead of resting meant she must really not want to keep that leg.
Moreover, the hitman hired to attack her was already in custody. Even if Celeste had god-like connections, she couldn't undo this now.
"Maybe I did see it wrong."
She gave a slight nod, suppressing the inexplicable unease in her heart, and let Luna push her wheelchair back to the hospital.
The next morning, in the top-floor VIP ward of Capital Hospital.
Celeste had just been helped into a sitting position by a maid when the door burst open.
Mrs. Sterling and Helena rushed in, both looking frantic.
"Celeste!" Helena pushed her wheelchair over quickly. "What on earth is going on? The police station just called the house, saying Sienna pointed you out as a suspect! A suspect for what?
Hearing the words 'false statement' sent Helena's temper flaring to the roof.
"She really doesn't know her place! After all these years in the business world, no one has ever dared to sling mud at the Sterlings.
Come on, Mom. We'll go with Celeste. I want to see exactly what Sienna is trying to pull."
Mrs. Sterling echoed fiercely, "Don't worry, Celeste. We'll go to the station with you and tear down her lies to her face."
Together with the maid, they carefully helped Celeste into her wheelchair and started pushing her toward the door.
Celeste leaned back in the wheelchair, projecting the perfect blend of weakness and grievance on her pale face.
But as they passed a mirrored wall in the corridor, she tilted her head slightly, caught her own reflection, and let a smirk ghost across her lips.
The smirk vanished in a flash, too fast for anyone to notice.
