The attending physician took off his mask, looking utterly exhausted as he stepped out.
Jarred rushed over immediately. "Doctor, how is my wife? Is she okay?"
The doctor sighed. "Don't worry, the patient is out of danger. She's going to be fine.
We've completed all emergency procedures, and she's being transferred back to the VIP ward through the private channel.
Once she is fully awake, you can go in and see her."
The heavy knot in Jarred's chest finally loosened a fraction. "Thank you, doctor."
Before the doctor could reply, Eleanor's voice chimed in from behind.
"Doctor, is the baby in her stomach okay?"
Hearing this, the doctor let out a soft sigh. "Mr. Sterling, you specifically instructed me to monitor Dr. Sloan for any signs of pregnancy.
During the emergency procedures, we drew blood for immediate testing. The results show that Dr. Sloan is not pregnant."
"What?"
Helena's voice pitched high. "Eleanor, you see! I told you Sienna wasn't that lucky! Getting pregnant just like that, hoping to use a baby to trap our family—it was pure delusion."
Hearing this, the tension melted off Eleanor's face.
At the end of the day, today's incident was partly due to her own carelessness.
If Sienna had actually been pregnant, she would have had a hell of a time explaining it to Jarred.
"Exactly. So..."
Helena was about to continue when Jarred shot her a lethal glare.
"Shut up!"
That predatory, menacing look immediately silenced the two women.
Jarred turned back to the physician. "Doctor, please continue."
The doctor spoke slowly, delivering news that shocked everyone into absolute silence.
"Mr. Sterling, there is one more thing I must tell you. Dr. Sloan is not pregnant this time, but... she will never be able to conceive again."
Eleanor nodded repeatedly, not a hint of sympathy on her face. Instead, she looked triumphant. "Yes, it's a blessing in disguise. Otherwise, we'd be tied to her forever. This makes the divorce nice and clean."
Finishing their quiet exchange, they turned to look at Jarred.
He stood frozen in the middle of the hallway, a forgotten statue.
Seeing him looking as if his soul had been ripped from his body, Eleanor frowned and called out, "Jarred!"
But he didn't react at all.
Jarred's head was ringing, the doctor's words playing on a devastating loop in his mind.
Permanent infertility...
Every single syllable felt like a serrated blade, carving into his heart over and over again.
By dusk.
Sienna slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Jarred sitting vigil by her bed.
His eyes were bloodshot, and a dark shadow of stubble lined his jaw, entirely stripping away his usual polished, arrogant demeanor.
