Sienna crushed the gummy candy in her palm, her knuckles turning white.
She took a deep breath, forcefully swallowing down the rage threatening to explode from her chest.
She looked up at the undisguised triumph in Silas's eyes and scoffed.
"You're still in the mood to laugh? Your scandals are all over the internet now. Your downfall is minutes away."
Her entire purpose tonight was to expose Silas's shady deals.
She had prepared meticulously. The files were encrypted and put on a timer.
If she didn't cancel the upload by the deadline, they would automatically be sent to Luna, who would then release them to the public.
Either way, Silas wasn't getting away with this.
But Silas just kept smiling his slow, easy smile as he rose from the sofa and stalked toward her.
He towered over her, looking down with an unsettling, wicked gleam in his eyes.
He spoke in a measured drawl, his voice like poison laced with honey, "If I were afraid, the bullet I just shot at your pretty head would have been real."
Hearing his indifferent tone, Sienna frowned.
Suddenly, she couldn't read him at all.
She tilted her chin up, meeting Silas's arrogant gaze.
He even raised an eyebrow at her, silently taunting: *What else have you got?*
Sienna stared right back. "You don't have the guts to kill me, and keeping me here is useless. What exactly do you want?"
Silas suddenly leaned in.
The scent of his expensive cologne, mixed with the faint metallic tang of gunpowder, washed over her.
The distance between them shrank to mere inches.
Sienna instinctively tried to step back, but her shoulders hit the back of her chair.
Silas's voice dropped to a low murmur. "Things have already escalated to this point. There's no use clinging to what happened back then.
I won't hold tonight against you, and you can forget about the unpleasantness from seven years ago.
Right now, the thing you want most is to get rid of Jarred Sterling, isn't it?"
Before either of them could react, a low growl ripped through the air.
"Take your filthy hands off her!"
In the next second, the hand gripping Sienna's chin was forcefully seized and violently wrenched away.
The sheer strength of the pull sent Silas stumbling a half-step sideways, feeling as though his bones had nearly snapped.
Sienna looked up, only to see the one person she wanted to deal with least in the world.
Jarred radiated a freezing, lethal aura, his eyes blazing with absolute fury.
His strong hand yanked her up from the chair.
Without another word, he pulled her flush against his chest, his grip so dominant she had no room to resist.
Sienna froze.
Coming back to her senses, she shoved hard against him, desperately trying to break free.
But Jarred's arm remained immovable.
