Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 167

Before he could finish, a sharp ringtone pierced the air.

Jolted back to reality, Willow suddenly remembered the distress messages she had sent out.

She completely forgot to let her mentor know she was safe!

Vivienne must be sick with worry.

She glanced at the screen, freezing for a second when she saw the caller ID.

Why was he calling?

Noticing her hesitation, Lucian looked down. "Aren't you going to answer it?"

With a sigh, she swiped to accept the call. She couldn't visit Jasper at the hospital today, so the least she could do was let him know.

Just as she brought the phone to her ear, Lucian casually reached over to adjust her sleeve and "accidentally" tapped the speakerphone button.

Sterling's voice immediately filtered through the cabin. "Willow, the doctor made a mistake with my medication today, and I'm having a terrible allergic reaction. I feel awful. Can you come see me?"

He sounded pitiable, yet the innocence was undeniably rehearsed.

In a flash, Lucian's gaze turned frosty, a dangerous glint settling deep in his eyes.

Sterling.

That pathetic stray dog was trying to steal his wife!

He was moving way too fast.

Willow instinctively shot a glance at Lucian. For some bizarre reason, she felt like she had just been caught cheating.

It was so weird...

It had to be her imagination playing tricks on her.

Gathering her composure, she replied, "I'm sorry, I've got something going on right now. I won't be able to make it today."
