By the time Lucian stepped out of the hospital, he had completely reined in his murderous aura. He climbed back into the helicopter with perfect composure.

Willow, having just finished reassuring her friends she was safe, tilted her head. "Is Jasper okay?"

She was far too comfortable using that nickname.

Lucian's eyes darkened a fraction, but he kept his tone perfectly neutral. Sitting down beside her, he said, "I had the doctor run a full diagnostic. He faked the allergic reaction to trick you into coming."

Willow blinked in surprise.

But what reason would Lucian have to lie about that?

He didn't even know Jasper. There was no bad blood between them, so fabricating a story made no sense.

Besides, thinking back on her first encounter with Jasper, the whole situation had felt a little off.

The timing had been far too convenient, almost like someone had carefully orchestrated the entire thing.

She sighed heavily. "I understand."

Lucian didn't push it. Saying too much would only make him look petty and suspicious.

Planting the seed of doubt was more than enough.

Leaning back into his seat, he pulled two candies from his pocket and offered her one. "Here. For the shock."

It was tangerine-flavored, which happened to be her favorite. Without hesitating, she popped it into her mouth.

As the bittersweet tang washed over her tastebuds, Lucian spoke up. "Willow, I'm looking to invest in the pharmaceutical sector, but I'm flying blind. I know you studied it in college. Would you be willing to help me out?"

Willow had just been wondering how she could possibly repay him for saving her life. Without a second thought, she nodded. "Just bring me along when you negotiate the deal."

Armed with the knowledge of her past life, she knew exactly which biotech start-ups were about to explode in value. She could easily make him millions.
