In that moment, Willow completely understood!
Sterling had done all of this on purpose. He went through all the trouble of setting up a grand proposal banquet just to force Lucian's hand using this exact method.
Willow let out an exasperated laugh. She was quite familiar with the Jagger family's situation. After all, they were the partners Xavier had desperately tried to collaborate with in her past life. To help Xavier, Willow had thoroughly researched the Jaggers.
That was how she knew Lucian was the only legitimate heir to the Jagger family. The rest were all illegitimate children.
In other words, everything in the Jagger family belonged to Lucian. Sterling had absolutely no right to covet it.
Yet, to steal it away, he resorted to all sorts of schemes to frame Lucian.
In a way, Lucian's situation was strikingly similar to Willow's own.
One had their family's love stolen by an adopted daughter, the other had an illegitimate child trying to usurp their place...
At that moment, Willow deeply empathized with Lucian.
She turned her head to glance at Lucian. His jaw was clenched tight, a dark storm brewing in his eyes, but as he met Willow's gaze, a flash of anxiety and humiliation crossed his eyes.
He looked so pitiful, so wronged.
The anger in Willow's heart flared up instantly. She turned to glare at Sterling, whose eyes were full of triumph, the corners of his lips curling upward in a smirk.
She suddenly laughed, narrowing her eyes at him. "Did you make the rules?"
Sterling froze for a second, failing to process her words right away.
Then, obvious mockery surged into Willow's beautiful eyes. She raised an eyebrow slightly, looking exceptionally haughty.
Even with such a cold, unfeeling demeanor, she was simply too gorgeous. People could only see her stunning, radiant beauty.
Sterling looked dazed for a moment. The next second, he heard Willow scoff. "Sterling, I hope you understand your place. You're not the heir to the Jagger family, so you have no right to bring up family rules. Besides, the future rules will only be set by Lucian, the rightful heir. What does that have to do with you? Furthermore, you're nothing but an illegitimate son. What kind of brother are you?"
She emphasized the word 'illegitimate', deliberately tearing apart Sterling's dignity.
