But before she could finish, another voice cut across the restaurant.
“There you are!”
It was full of stunned joy and something desperate beneath it.
I turned toward the voice, already knowing who it belonged to.
Callum stood a few feet away, eyes locked on mine like he was afraid I’d vanish again.
Before I could move, he was already walking toward me. “You’re safe. Thank God. I’ve been looking
everywhere. Savannah, you have no idea how hard it’s been without you…”
“Wait a damn minute.”
Maggie shot to her feet, furious and incredulous. “Wait, Callum, you’re saying all this… and your wife is
standing right behind you?”
Behind him, Eliza stood silently, face pale, eyes glossy with unshed tears. She looked like she couldn’t
breathe.
Callum, who once couldn’t stand to see her shed a single tear, now didn’t even look back. Instead, he replied
without hesitation, “Savannah is my wife. What’s inappropriate about that?”
Maggie’s eyes widened in shock. “What?! Are you kidding me? Isn’t Eliza your wife?”
Gabe, who already knew the truth, showed no reaction.
Callum no longer tried to hide it. His voice was steady, almost solemn. “Savannah and I are legally married. We’ve been husband and wife for years.”
Maggie turned to me, suspicion clouding her expression. I let out a weary sigh, then nodded. “It’s true. But
we’re getting divorced. That’s why I never told you.”
Callum’s face went pale. The word seemed to knock the air out of him. He looked stunned, his smile faltering into something brittle.
