Biker's Claim The Broken Angel is Mine (Cora and Jake) novel Chapter 185

Chapter 185

Chapter 185

Xavier (Grease) POV

Oddball, what have you got yourself into?

How deep have you dragged the club into your sordid dealings?

All those years we have been friends, and not once did I see him as dirty.

I’m not much of an enforcer, then. I always thought I could read people, but I completely missed the change in one of my closest friends.

I thought about this as I stared at the names on the list.

Six years; it had to be at least six years ago before Strike and Oddbal! tied the knot, but they were dating all through school. He would have been twenty, and his dad, the president, was still alive. He was a good president, but often had some serious arguments at home with Oddball, mostly over trying to get him to be stronger and teach him how to take over the club, because Oddball didn’t want to toe the line, he wanted to be carefree, ride when he felt like it and not have to answer to anyone, he had always been that way, and it appears he never grew up, still thinks he was not answerable to anyone.

We were young and still full of fun; life hadn’t hit us hard yet.

I was in my third year and final year of my apprenticeship.

It was a hard time for Oddball, and the pressure from the club officers to start looking at who he would be, and look at one take taking the club to new heights, and then he stopped being angry all the time and proposed to Strike. I thought all his problems were because he was trying to gain the courage to ask Strike to be his wife; he became the man I knew, laughed more, and appeared more in control.

Now?

With this evidence?

I am not so sure; he may have made a deal with the devil, gained confidence, and, as time went by, got away with it, which pushed him deeper into the wrong crowd and dragged the club along with him.

He’s not the man I thought he was.

I feel violated.

Our friendship?

Was it all false?

Were all his promises lies?

Why?

Because of money?

Greed?

Hfeel I ever really knew the man, not the one I grew up with, considered one of my best friends, fought Together, taughed and cried together.

Somewhere along the way, he turried a corner, and I continued straight ahead. Guiding the club in the direction I thought they were headed, but it seemed I had blinkers on

Cora touched me, and I turned to look at her.

I was hurt and left my feelings open for her to see.

We nodded as if in an unspoken agreement.

Cora will help me get over this and keep me from spiralling into deeper despair. She knows first-hand what it feels like to be betrayed and trust broken. It was how we met, when Cora was at her lowest; now it was her turn to pull me through as I had for her.

I can’t change the past, but I can change where my future heads, and from this moment moving forward, I will no longer consider Oddball a friend, or allow his past to hurt my family or me in any way. I need to find out how much the club was unknowingly being used, or blackmailed like poor Dormouse.

Oddball sided with the devil; it’s time to push the devil back where he belongs.

That was when things got even more interesting, as we learned of the camera bug that was in both clubs, and I wondered what other clubs that man had been spying on, and how deep Oddball was in that side of

“it.

“Hacker, how did you know about the bugs in the camera?” I asked as I worked through the paperwork.

“Never thought to look. I had been so busy ensuring no bugs were in Oddball’s office as he asked, checked the phones and the room, never thought about the cameras. Sure, we often break into cameras to retrieve footage, but never thought about planting a bug in them. That’s on me. Oddball had the cameras all updated about six months ago. If you remember, that was when the bug must have been planted, and I bet my bottom dollar Oddball would be part of getting the bug in there, and if all went sour, point the finger at me.” Hacker grumbled angrily. It did look like Oddball was planning who would take the fall if it went sour.

I have lost the last shred of respect and trust in that man; the deeper we get, the worse he looks, and Demetri’s dad looks like he was the teacher.

He, who is Demetri’s dad, was the devil incarnate.

It was good that Demetri didn’t melt down or fall apart; the shock of seeing his name on the screen had to have plunged a knife deep.

My respect for him grew. Cora and Demetri will both work hard on bringing that man down.

Demetri never needed that man’s money or status, and I am so glad he turned his back on the family; otherwise, he too would have been tainted by that man’s greed and downfall.

“Was your father’s father involved in all of this? He was a tyrant and an angry man, according to all the news I have read over the years, before he died.” I suddenly asked, as I looked at the new piles of paperwork growing and, with Ruby’s help and Scrubs, we were sorting them between shooting and the black market.

“What makes you ask?” Demetri looked up from his phone.

“This name, wasn’t that your father-in-law’s name?” I pointed to a well-known name.
