Chapter 149
Xylia’s indifference left Sonny feeling both agitated and uneasy.

In his view, Xylia should put him and Connor first in everything; even when he and Connor lost their temper, Xylia should endure it.
Yet now, Xylia was actually telling him to leave.
Moreover, her gaze was indifferent, as if she did not wish to see him. He could not accept it.
Sonny pointed at Joshua and shouted loudly, “What right do you have to drive me away? Even if you and Dad are divorced, you are still my mother. I won’t let you be with this man, so you are not allowed to be with him!”
Xylia furrowed her brows, the impatience in her eyes nearly overflowing.
Her voice was icy. “You seem to have said that, from then on, I would no longer be your mom.”
Sonny felt deflated, his gaze flickering, with a guilty look on his face. “Even if I don’t acknowledge you as my mom, you are still my mom. No, what I mean is…”
Sonny was still young and had not yet developed flexible thinking skills.
However, he knew that even though his parents were divorced, his mother remained his mother.
He just couldn’t fully express it.
Joshua looked at the shorty before him and let out a disdainful, cold snort
He wrapped his hand around Xylia’s waist and drew her into his embrace.
Xylia was startled and instinctively grasped his arm.
Their posture was intimate, resembling that of a couple.
Joshua slightly lowered his eyes and looked at Sonny. “I remember your mother’s name is Tessa Schultz, so don’t go calling my girlfriend Mom.”
Upon hearing Joshua’s words, Xylia could not help but pinch him hard at the waist, thinking, ‘His girlfriend? Seriously?”
Joshua’s back muscles tensed as he lowered his gaze and blinked apologetically at Xylia.
Xylia released him, did not spare Sonny another glance, and turned to walk upstairs to the second floor.
“Mom…” Sonny instinctively wanted to follow, but was startled by Joshua’s sudden change in expression. Hist steps halted, and he could not move forward.
Joshua did not turn to look at Sonny until after Xylia had left.

His handsome face no longer bore the gentleness it showed when facing Xylia. Instead, it was shadowed, and his eyes were fierce.
Even in front of a six–year–old child, Joshua did not restrain himself.
He coldly threatened Sonny. “Don’t come to disturb her again.”
Sonny was young, and within the Ford family, he was always cherished.
He had never been threatened like that.
Out of fear, his entire body was trembling.
Only after Joshua turned and went upstairs did Sonny turn and run out of the studio.
The studio had been renovated
Joshua went directly to Xylia’s studio.
Upon seeing Joshua enter, Josie tactfully left the office.
Joshua walked up to Xylia’s desk, braced himself with both hands on the desk, and leaned forward slightly, lowering his gaze to look at Xylia. “Are you mad?”
Xylia lifted her gaze to look at him, her expression showing neither anger nor joy,
“Do you feel that, in front of your own son, you do not wish to have a relationship with another man?” Joshua’s lips curved in a smile as his eyes seized her gaze, taking in every expression on her face.
Xylia
frowned and looked at him. “It’s not just about my son; such jokes shouldn’t be made lightly.”
“Is that so?” Joshua did not agree.
Seeing that Xylia’s eyes reflected only resistance and not aversion, he felt somewhat relieved.
His eyes flickered with a sudden idea. He turned, walked over to the only sofa in the office, sat down, and casually poured himself a glass of water. “I really didn’t expect you to dislike me so much, Xylia. It looks like 1 should contact you less in the future.”
Xylia looked at him. “When did I ever say that I disliked you?”
“It’s all on your face.” As Joshua spoke, he gestured to her face with his index finger.
Xylia could not bear to see Joshua in such a dejected state.
She came out from behind the desk, walked over, and sat down opposite Joshua. “You have misunderstood me. I simply believe that, as friends, we should not make such jokes casually; otherwise, this friendship may become distorted.”
Joshua said indifferently, “Distorted? But I don’t think it’s distorted.”

From the very beginning, when he approached Xylia, he never thought about any lousy friendship.
He had always harbored intentions toward her. Therefore, he thought that this could not be regarded as distorted.
Nylia parted her lips, intending to explain, but realized that no matter how much she said, it would be of no use to someone as obstinate as Joshua.
She lowered her voice and soothed him, “Then just assume I don’t like such jokes. Please don’t make these jokes again in the future, okay?”
Joshua rotated the glass in his hand, his gaze lowered and devoid of emotion. Yet, upon closer observation, a subtle chill could be seen in his eyes.
He did not answer.
Xylia regarded him as having given tacit consent.
She thought for a moment, then changed the subject. “By the way, I’ve been meaning to ask–since you’re the heir of the Garcia family, why were you in such a sorry state back then when you were abroad?”
Xylia had wanted to ask about this matter for a very long time, but had never found a suitable opportunity.
When she first met Joshua, he was covered in blood, dressed in street–market clothing, and appeared both impoverished and disheveled.
It was worlds apart from the image of the Garcia family’s heir.
Joshua paused in the act of turning his water glass. He looked up at Xylia, a hint of a teasing smile on his lips. “You want to get to know me already?”
“What?” Xylia looked at Joshua, puzzled.
Joshua set down the glass, braced his elbows on his knees, and leaned in closer to Xylia. “Xylia, I think you like
me.”
Xylia widened her eyes in disbelief as she looked at Joshua.
