Chapter 245
Xylia, exasperated, couldn’t help but pinch Joshua’s outstretched hand.
“It’s all your fault!”

“I know, I know. Whatever punishment you want tonight, I’ll take it,” Joshua grinned.
“Joshua!” Xylia snapped.
Seeing she was genuinely riled up, Joshua finally stopped teasing her.
There weren’t any bite marks on his right shoulder at all—Joshua had made the whole thing up just to mess with Xylia.
When Joshua was helping Xylia get changed, he couldn’t help but be captivated by how absolutely breathtaking she looked in that elegant evening dress.
There were going to be a lot of men at the gala tonight, and Joshua really hated the idea of any of them staring at Xylia.
Even though most folks knew Xylia was his girlfriend, Joshua couldn’t help but feel possessive -he just didn’t want anyone’s eyes on her but his own.
Joshua held out his arm, grinning at Xylia.
“Your brother’s probably heading in with Ms. Webb, so I guess you’ll just have to put up going in with me,” he teased.

It was only then that Xylia noticed Rosalind watching the two of them with an amused look. Suddenly feeling a little bashful, she greeted Rosalind quickly and slipped inside with Joshua,
Rosalind walked up to Kaden, holding his coat, and arched an eyebrow with a teasing grin.
“Guess you’ll just have to put up with being my escort tonight, Mr. Sadler,” she joked.
Kaden glanced at the coat she handed over, his eyes lingering a little longer on the generous stretch of her fair skin exposed to the air. His gaze grew a shade deeper as he took the coat and draped it over her shoulders.
“No trouble at all. Let’s go, he replied quietly.
He took Rosalind’s hand, linked it through his arm, and led her into the villa.
Walking alongside Kaden, Rosalind could tell he was slowing down on purpose just to match her steps. Her smile grew wider.

‘Who knew this icy guy could actually be so sweet?‘ Rosalind thought to herself.

Joshua walked in with Xylia on his arm, and instantly every pair of eyes in the place zoned in
on them.
For starters, Joshua was the one and only heir to the Garcia Group, and he almost never showed his face at these events. So whenever he did make an appearance, everyone wanted to finally see what the infamous Garcia heir was really like.
On top of that, the word around town was that Joshua’s girlfriend came straight from the Sadler family.
The Sadlers and the Jennings had been bitter rivals for ages, so seeing someone from the Sadlers show up to the old man’s birthday party had everybody talking. Some folks were even joking that George Jennings might just keel over from rage before the night was over.
Xylia hadn’t expected to walk in and feel like she was on display.
She edged closer to Joshua and whispered, “Why is everyone staring at us like we’re some kind of spectacle?”
“Because we’re just too damn good–looking together. A hot guy and a gorgeous girl like us–of course we’d catch everyone’s eye,” Joshua said, flashing her a playful grin.
Xylia shot him a look, speechless at his shamelessness.
Still, his joke managed to make her relax, even if just a little.
Trailing close behind Joshua and Xylia were Kaden and Rosalind.
Both were stars in their own families and regulars at these parties, so everyone in the room had seen them around plenty of times.
But people couldn’t help but stare when Kaden walked in–eyes widened in shock.
Xylia showing up with Joshua wasn’t exactly headline news.
But when Kaden arrived? That was a whole new level.
That could only mean one thing: Kaden must’ve been personally invited by the Jennings family.
The Jennings sent Kaden an invite–and he actually showed up.
Was tonight really the moment when the feud between the Sadlers and the Jennings would finally get settled?

The crowd was wild with speculation, but the ones at the center of all this drama kept their mouths shut.
Xylia hadn’t eaten anything all evening, and now she was starting to feel hungry.
With the fancy background music playing, Joshua heard her stomach grumbling from across the room. Grinning, he grabbed her hand and steered her straight to the dessert table.
He grabbed two pastries for her, piled them onto a plate, and then led her over to a comfy booth set up for the guests.
“Here, get something in your stomach before you start fading. Who knows when they’ll finally get dinner going,” he said, handing her the plate.
Xylia scooped up a bit of cake and playfully offered it to Joshua, holding the spoon up to his lips.
Joshua looked a little caught off guard at first, but then just leaned in and ate it like it was the most natural thing in the world. “Go on, you should eat. I’m not hungry,” he said.
Xylia stared at him, lost for words.
‘Not hungry, huh? You sure didn’t hesitate snatching that bite,’ she grumbled inwardly.
She took a small bite of the pastry, and Joshua flagged down a waiter to grab her a glass of juice.
Meanwhile, with Joshua’s high–profile status, a bunch of people who wanted to cozy up to the Garcia Group started coming over, trying to strike up conversations with him.
After Joshua had brushed off a few people, Xylia leaned in close to his ear and whispered, “You really should go mingle a bit. God knows what they’ll say about you if you just sit here all night.”
Joshua was just about to reply, but Xylia cut him off with a sly grin.
“Relax, I’ll stay right here and wait for you,” she promised, sounding playful.
Joshua knew he couldn’t just park himself there forever, so he gently ruffled Xylia’s hair and said, “Alright, wait here for me–no sneaking off.”
“Got it,” Xylia replied.
“And don’t you dare take off that dress,” Joshua added, giving her a playful warning look.
Xylia rolled her eyes, completely speechless.

As she watched Joshua walk away, she couldn’t help but chuckle.
Sometimes, his overprotective side was just too damn cute.

After polishing off her pastry, Xylia found herself sitting there with nothing to do, bored out
of her mind.
Off in the distance, Kaden and Rosalind were chatting with some people they knew. Rosalind caught Xylia’s eye and raised her glass in a silent toast.
Xylia raised her juice in return, giving a little cheers back.
Suddenly, a stranger stepped in between her and Rosalind, blocking her view.
Xylia looked up and saw a girl who looked like she’d stepped right out of a doll shop, staring down at her with that critical, almost doll–like gaze.
“Is there something you want?” Xylia said, her tone laced with annoyance as the girl just stood there silently, sizing her up.
‘Seriously, who just stands there staring like that? How rude.‘ Xylia thought, feeling pretty offended as she decided to speak up first.
“So, you’re Xylia?” the girl finally asked, her tone sharp as she looked Xylia up and down.
Xylia gave her a confused look. “Do we know each other?”
Yeah, she definitely didn’t know this girl–no way.
The girl was almost unnaturally cute, dressed in a puffy yellow dress with layers of tulle and flawless makeup, looking like some luxury doll come to life—she was drop–dead gorgeous.
No doubt about it, Xylia thought, if she’d ever met a stunner like this before, she’d remember for sure.
The girl scoffed, “Never met you before.”
Xylia could tell right away she wasn’t friendly at all, so she just kept her mouth shut.
“If you’ve already got a boyfriend, then why’d you let yourself get set up with my brother?” the girl said sharply, glaring at her.
