When Xylia left Quezada & Co. Apparel Design, she was still a bit dazed. The whole process felt more like a business negotiation than an interview. Of course, Joshua did most of the talking.
In the end, Xavi agreed to give her simple freelance work, and once her hand healed, she could come to the office, where a talented designer would be assigned to guide her.
As she reached the building’s entrance, Xylia turned to look at Joshua with sincere gratitude. “Joshua, thank you.” She knew that everything had gone smoothly today because of his connections.
Joshua was taken aback by her serious tone. After a moment, he leaned down slightly, getting closer to her face.
He smiled, his alluring eyes incredibly captivating. “I told you, no need to thank me. I’ll make sure you repay me later.”

After Xylia left, Xavi stepped out and stood beside Joshua. “I can tell Ms. Schultz has talent. Her injury isn’t a big issue. I’ll just make sure she doesn’t get any heavy tasks. But you’re really soft on her.”
Since Xylia left, the smile on Joshua’s face had completely disappeared, replaced by coldness. He shot a brief glance at Xavi, and with just that one look, Xavi felt a little uneasy.
Joshua said, “You think her wrist injury is a small matter?”
Xavi sighed. “I saw her portfolio, and I can tell she’s talented with a solid foundation. A small injury like this won’t hold her back.”
“Every little thing with her is a big deal to me,” Joshua said flatly.
Xavi stared at him in shock.
Joshua lowered his gaze, his voice soft with a hint of tenderness. “She’s been through too much already, I won’t let her suffer anymore.”

Xylia didn’t head straight home. Instead, she stopped by the supermarket to pick up some ingredients, planning to make soup for Orion.
When she returned to Ford Mansion, she saw Tessa and Sonny playing on the lawn from a

Xylia’s smile faded. She glanced at Sonny for a moment before turning and walking toward
the main house.
Just as she was about to enter the villa, she ran into Connor coming out. He was holding a cute thermos cup that wasn’t Sonny’s, so it was probably meant for Tessa.
Connor froze for a moment when he saw Xylia. She had makeup on today. Normally, she went bare–faced, but today, her light makeup made her look a bit more lively and charming.
His expression softened for a moment before his brows furrowed. “Where did you go? And why the makeup?”
Xylia remained indifferent. “I went for an interview.” She didn’t want to engage with Connor too much and tried to walk past him.
Connor grabbed her wrist, stopping her.
“Don’t touch me!” Xylia yanked her arm away from his grip. She had already landed the job, and her wrist needed to heal. She couldn’t afford to let Connor hurt her anymore.
Seeing Xylia pull away forcefully, Connor was taken aback and for the first time, saw something like disgust in her eyes.
He froze, then quickly became angry. “An interview? With your hands and feet practically useless, what kind of work can you even do?”
Xylia sneered, her voice sharp. “You should know better than anyone how my hands got like this.”
For a split second, Connor’s heart skipped a beat. He wondered if Xylia had figured out the truth.
Just then, Sonny’s voice came from nearby, mocking. “You didn’t go for a painting interview, did you? The stuff you draw is even worse than mine.
“Were you going out to embarrass yourself? I suggest you face the fact that you’re useless and go back to being a housewife.”
Sonny and Tessa walked over, and he didn’t hold back, hurling insults at Xylia.
Sonny’s words had become so routine over the days that Xylia didn’t even flinch anymore. Instead, she just felt a sense of regret–regret for marrying Connor and for having Sonny.
Tessa crouched down and put a hand on Sonny’s shoulder, pretending to speak up for Xylia. “Sonny, you shouldn’t talk to your mom like that.
