…
Joshua’s cheeks were flushed, and when he looked up, there was a dangerous glint in his eyes.
Noelle was frightened.

As her gaze fell on the two men chasing behind Joshua, Noelle steeled herself and threw her arms wide open.
“Joshua, you can’t leave!” Noelle called out anxiously.
Joshua’s cheeks were flushed, his eyes rimmed with a fierce red–anyone could tell he’d been dosed with something.
This was it–her chance. Noelle wasn’t about to let it slip through her fingers.
The footsteps pounding behind her were getting closer and closer.
Without hesitating, Joshua kicked Noelle away with force.
He didn’t hold back–Noelle was sent flying and slammed hard onto the ground, landing a good six feet away.
Taking advantage of the distraction, Joshua bolted toward the stairs.
Richard and Holt rushed out, not even sparing Noelle a glance as they shot straight for the staircase.
Only when the two of them had gone downstairs did Joshua quietly slip upstairs, heading up a floor and hitting the elevator button.
Richard and Holt dashed down two whole flights, but there was no sign of Joshua–he’d vanished without a
trace.
Richard suddenly stopped dead in his tracks.
“Something’s off!” he muttered, a sudden realization hitting him. He bolted toward the elevator, pounding the button like a man possessed.
The elevator came down from the floor above, but when the doors slid open, it was completely empty.
Richard’s face darkened, his expression stormy and grim.
Meanwhile, Xylia was snuggled up in bed, watching a movie.
Joshua had picked a great one–a cheerful, light comedy. Soon enough, she was so caught up in it that she forgot all about the scare she’d had earlier.
Xylia was curled up in bed, totally absorbed in the movie, when suddenly there was a loud, urgent bang at the door.
Startled, she jumped up, heart racing.

Chapter 304
“Who’s there?” Xylia called out, her voice trembling.
Joshua lurched into the room, barely keeping his balance.
He was soaked in sweat, his face burning red, and his breath came in short, harsh bursts.
Xylia rushed over to steady him, worry rising in her eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Xylia asked, her voice trembling.
As soon as Xylia’s scent filled the air, Joshua’s mind went foggy–he couldn’t think straight. Driven by impulse. he pulled her into his arms and kissed her, unable to hold back.
Xylia didn’t see it coming. She immediately tried to resist, confusion and unease swirling inside her- something was definitely wrong.
She shoved against Joshua’s chest, desperately pushing him away with all her strength.
“Joshua, wait!” Xylia managed, her voice shaky with worry. “Did you drink something you weren’t supposed
to?”
Joshua planted a kiss on her cheek, his grip tight and voice shaky. “Help me, Xylia,” he pleaded.
‘So someone really set him up,‘ Xylia thought, her mind instantly clear–no wonder he’d lost control like this.
‘This is making me angry, Xylia growled inwardly.
Xylia struggled to break free and hauled Joshua straight into the bathroom.
Then she dumped cold water all over him. The freezing splash jolted Joshua back to his senses, clearing the fog in his mind.
He looked up and met Xylia’s angry face, managing to hold her gaze even though he felt absolutely awful inside.
“Xylia…” Joshua’s voice was hoarse, barely able to speak, clinging to her for help.
“Who did you run into?” Xylia snapped, her anger flaring.
From her fierce expression, it looked like Xylia was ready to charge out right now and make whoever was behind this pay.
Joshua closed his eyes, his sharp, chiseled features scrunched in pain. Under the cold, sterile bathroom light, the flush on his face became even more obvious, making him look absolutely pitiful.
He remained silent.
Xylia watched helplessly, her chest tightening at the sight.
She bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, then knelt down and began to unbutton his shirt.

Joshua grabbed Xylia’s wrist and gave her a hard tug, catching her off guard–she stumbled and landed right against his chest.
“It was Noelle,” Joshua finally muttered, his voice barely audible.
Xylia froze, every muscle in her body going tense.
‘Here I was, thinking Noelle had really changed this time. Turns out, she’s still got her eyes on Joshua!‘ Xylia fumed inwardly.
Joshua buried his face in the curve of Xylia’s neck.
“Help me get revenge, will you?” Joshua’s voice was rough, barely held together, as if fighting for control.
His words came out hoarse, thick with something he was struggling to rein in.
Xylia nodded, and his lips descended on hers once more.
The next morning.
Xylia was actually up before Joshua for a change.
She’d already gotten ready and sat on the edge of the bed, pinching Joshua’s nose shut.
Joshua woke up feeling suffocated.
When Joshua caught Xylia giving him that cold, no–nonsense stare, the little grumpiness that comes from waking up too early quickly flared into real irritation.
Joshua swallowed hard.
“Why are you up so early?” he grumbled, his voice raspy with sleep and a hint of annoyance.
“I’m having breakfast with Noelle. Want to come?” Xylia said, giving him a sidelong look.
Joshua let out a sigh of relief and lay back onto the bed.
“I can’t move,” he groaned.
Xylia assumed he just didn’t want to go.
“You have to go!” Xylia’s voice went cold, leaving no room for argument.
Normally, Joshua would’ve sprung out of bed and gotten himself ready in a flash.
But today, he just lay there like a lump, barely moving, and gently guided her hand up to his forehead.
Xylia had been ready to let loose on him, but as soon as her palm brushed his blazing hot skin, every bit of annoyance she felt just melted away.
“You’re burning up. Why do you have a fever?” she asked, her tone shifting to concern.

Joshua held her hand, leaning into her touch, seeking comfort.
“I got drenched in cold water last night,” he mumbled, sounding weak.

Xylia remembered pouring cold water over him, but it wasn’t for that long–hardly enough to make him sick, right?
‘Could that drug have messed with his immune system?‘ Xylia thought.
Joshua was usually built like a tank–he never seemed to get sick, no matter what he put his body through.
But seeing him now, all pitiful and curled up in bed, you couldn’t help but feel a wave of sympathy for the
guy.
Xylia had no choice but to cancel her breakfast with Noelle and haul Joshua off to the hospital.
After getting his IV drip, Joshua was completely out of it and soon fell into a deep sleep.
Xavi arrived at the hospital, all geared up to roast Joshua, but the guy was already knocked out cold.
With a tinge of disappointment, Xavi set the fruit he’d brought down on the bedside table.
Xylia shot Xavi a sharp look, “How did you find out Joshua was sick and in the hospital?”
She’d brought Joshua in that morning, but she was sure she hadn’t breathed a word to anyone about it.
“Noelle told me,” Xavi shrugged.
Xavi sat down with an easy air, spinning his chair a bit until he was comfortable.
