Chapter 345

S5 vous lo

While Xylia was breastfeeding her baby, a sudden wrenching pain gripped her chest.

It wasn’t the usual, physical painit felt more like something inside her was draining away.

She held out against the pain, and when it finally faded, she realized her daughter was already sound asleep in

her arms.

She gazed down at her tiny, soft daughter, and the panic in her chest slowly melted away.

Sweetheart, I promise I’ll come up with a perfect name for you in a few days, she whispered.

She reached out and gently tapped her baby’s small nose, her voice soft as a breeze.

Your dad doesn’t even bother to visit me in my dreams to help decide your name. He’s so careless. Maybe we should ignore him from now on,Xylia sighed.

With that, her smile gradually disappeared.

Let’s not ignore your dad after all. He didn’t do it on purpose,Xylia whispered softly.

The hospital room was peacefully quiet.

Outside, the gentle breeze stirred the soft white curtains, letting golden sunshine spill in.

The whole space brimmed with the warmth of new life.

Two hours later, the ER doors swung open and a doctor stepped out, just as Noelle hurried over.

Doctor, how is my boyfriend?Noelle asked, anxiety clear in her voice.

The doctor glanced at her, reassuring but serious. He’s got several broken bones and some old injuries too. We’ve managed to get his condition stable for now, but he still needs to be watched closely.

Something seemed to occur to Noelle, and after a moment’s hesitation, she asked, Doctor, is it possible to transfer him to another hospital?

The doctor’s brow knit in concern.

That’s out of the question! With injuries this severe, how could you even consider transferring him? Our orthopedic department at University Medical Center is the top in the nation. Moving him now would be a terrible mistake.

Noelle tried to explain herself, but the doctor didn’t leave any room for argument.

With a firm tone, the doctor replied, The patient absolutely cannot be moved right now. Even if you insist on a transfer, he needs to stay here under observation for at least a week.

Noelle hesitated, realizing she didn’t have much choice, and finally nodded in agreement.

Soon, Joshua was wheeled into a hospital room.

Noelle had gotten him a private room and took charge herself, making sure no one else came close.

She’d already checked ahead. Xylia’s due date was any day now, and she knew Xylia would be giving birth at this hospital.

If they ran into each other here, all her careful planning would be for nothing.

After everything she’d done to finally have Joshua with her, there was no way she was letting him slip away

now.

If Joshua hadn’t gotten into a car accident while saving that kid today, Noelle would have left Jupiton without a second thoughtthere was no way she would’ve stayed with him otherwise.

Another two hours passed.

As the anesthesia wore off, Joshua slowly woke up.

Noelle beamed with happiness at Joshua. Joshua, you’re awake?

After bringing Joshua back from Daltonia, Noelle quietly gave him a new identity.

He was now Joshua Lynch.

She clung to Joshua’s hand, her eyes brimming with tears.

Joshua’s fingers stirred, and after a long moment, he reassured her gently, I’m fine.

How can you say you’re fine? Why did you have to risk your life for that little girl? Did you even think about me at all? I’m all alone nowif something happened to you, what would I do?Noelle’s voice wavered, the hurt and fear spilling out.

Noelle finally broke into tears, unable to hold it together any longer.

God knows how scared I was, seeing Joshua lying there covered in blood after the accident,Noelle thought, her heart pounding with lingering terror.

Joshua looked at Noelle.

His eyes were calm, almost unreadable.

Saving that little girl had just been a reflexhe didn’t think he’d done anything wrong.

But listening to Noelle cry now, he just found it kind of annoying.

Don’t cry,” Joshua murmured, his tone weary.

His voice was barely more than a whisper, each word seeming to cost him more strength than he had left.

I really don’t have it in me to comfort her right now, Joshua thought, exhausted.

After a while, Noelle’s crying subsided.

She glanced at Joshua and asked, Are you hungry? I can go grab you something to eat.

Not hungry,Joshua answered quietly.

You must be hungry! I’m going to get you something right now. You just wait for me,Noelle insisted.

With that, Noelle left the room.

Joshua was just two hours out from surgery, still weak and exhausted. Really, someone should’ve been by his side at all times.

He watched Noelle leave, but he didn’t try to stop her.

Normally, after a surgery like this, he’d be knocked out for at least seven or eight hours.

But Joshua was toughhe came to in just two.

He turned his head and saw the IV bag nearly drained.

Suddenly, he really regretted letting Noelle leave.

His whole body was basically paralyzed, and with the IV almost finished, if any air got into his veins, he’d be dead for sure with how weak he was.

The thought of death popped into Joshua’s mind.

For some reason, he just felt like he’d died once before.

Not like what Noelle always said, about him nearly dying from sickness and losing his memory.

No, this felt reallike he really did die, for real.

And deep down, Joshua just knew he was forgetting something important.

Noelle told him they were boyfriend and girlfriend, but Joshua always felt a strange distancelike none of his heart truly belonged to her.

There wasn’t a single part of him that was devoted to her.

These last few days, he’d kept doubting his own identity,

and wondering what Noelle’s real intentions were.

Yet Noelle genuinely cared for him, treating him with nothing but kindness.

Just trying to think about it made his head feel like it might explode.

So he forced himself to shut those thoughts out.

The IV drip was really almost gone.

Joshua tried to lift his handthankfully it still movedand with all his strength, he slowly inched it over to

the call button.

After pressing the button, sweat broke out all over his forehead.

He felt like he’d just been dragged out of the water, drenched and exhausted.

Someone came in from the hallway almost immediately.

But it wasn’t a nurse, and it wasn’t a doctor.

It was a stranger with a tray, heading straight for Joshua’s bedside.

He looks so damn familiar,Joshua thought, staring at the man in front of him.

His eyes, his whole vibeI swear I’ve seen him somewhere before, he mused.

But I just can’t remember where, Joshua frowned inwardly.

Cyrus Sadler had doubled back, meaning to drop something off for Xylia.

Passing by this room, he ran into a nurse who suddenly stumbled and twisted her ankle.

With quick reflexes, he grabbed the tray from her hands and helped steady her.

Her ankle had taken a nasty twist and was already starting to swell up.

Even though she was hurting, all she could think about was the patient in the room, trying to get up and stumbling from the pain.
