Chapter 382
Chapter 382
Xylia looked at him. “Blame you for what?”
Joshua pointed downstairs, clearly asking if she was mad at him for sending Connor to the police station.
Xylia looked at him, amused.
“If I blamed you, I wouldn’t have let you do it,” she said.
She took Joshua’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Just do whatever you want. I’ve got your back.”
Joshua finally felt the weight lift off his shoulders.
Even though he’d already guessed Xylia wouldn’t blame him, there was still that lingering fear in his heart.
He was afraid Xylia would think he was being cruel.
He was also afraid she still cared about Connor and Sonny as father and son.
But thankfully, none of those worst–case scenarios actually happened.
Joshua leaned in, kissed Xylia on the lips, and walked her home.

The next day, Posts started popping up online about the head of Ford Group getting busted for business fraud and shady corporate attacks.
The legendary big shot from Jupiton’s high society had ended up in prison, working like a nobody.
Everyone online was saying the same thing.
[When the rumors first started about Connor dumping his wife, I just knew he’d end up like this. Karma’s a real thing.]
[The fall of a once–powerful tycoon. What pops into my head first is how he didn’t hesitate to send his own wife to prison, all for her sister.]
[Heard that bitch is locked up too. Guess the two of them are finally gonna face off behind bars.]
When Xylia saw all those comments, she glanced at Joshua, a little confused.
“Did you set all this up?” she asked.
Usually, online trolls are all over the place, but seeing everyone gang up on Connor like this was a first for her.
If it wasn’t Joshua, then it must’ve been Kaden.
No way all those netizens would be this united on their own.
Joshua grinned and teasingly pinched Xylia’s cheek.
“I don’t want to see anyone talking trash about you,” he said.
Honestly, he couldn’t handle it if people started badmouthing her.

Xylia smiled at Joshua.
When she looked back at her phone, she spotted another trending topic.
It was a post accusing her of being an irresponsible mother to Sonny.
The post went on and on about how she’d been cold to Sonny lately, not giving a damn about her own kid.
Photos and videos made it all crystal clear.
The post was blowing up in no time, with comment after comment piling up.

[How is she even a mom? Her kid keeps calling her over and over, and she just acts like he doesn’t exist. Why is she being so petty with her own kid?]
[I know who she is. She’s Connor’s ex–wife. Why is she taking it out on the kid for what his dad did?]
[The kid’s so little, his parents are divorced, his dad’s in prison, and his mom doesn’t even care about him. Who knows what’s gonna happen to him?]
[Honestly, neither of these parents is any good!]
Sonny was just a little kid, and honestly, he was adorable.
Everyone online instantly felt bad for him.
Xylia scrolled through the comments, but honestly, she wasn’t fazed at all.
Joshua wasn’t even aware of all the online gossip.
He was getting their stuff ready for Alverland, just like Xylia wanted.
Xylia didn’t give the comments a second thought, so she turned off her phone and started helping Joshua pack.
“Why aren’t we bringing our parents to Manedom?” Xylia asked while packing.
Joshua just took her hand and made her sit down, not letting her help at all.
Xylia sighed, feeling a bit helpless, but she just sat there and watched Joshua neatly fold their clothes and pack them into the
suitcase.
“There’s really no need for them to come. Nina’s still just a little kid, and she can’t handle all that traveling. I feel better knowing my parents are at home looking after her,” Joshua said, his face unreadable.
Joshua’s face gave nothing away.
But Xylia could catch a hint of something in his expression.
Joshua usually kept his composure around Eliza and Aaron.
But Xylia knew he really cared about them.
He didn’t want Eliza and Aaron to come along, not just because of the long trip, but also because he didn’t want them worrying about him the whole time.

He’s really so thoughtful, Xylia couldn’t help but think, feeling a wave of warmth for how much Joshua cared about his parents.
Suddenly, Xylia knelt down and wrapped her arms around Joshua in a tight hug.
“Everyone in the medical field knows how steady your hands are, Joshua. I truly believe your surgery will go smoothly? Xylia said softly.
She said it like she had no doubts at all.
But as someone who had been a doctor herself, Xylia knew there was no such thing as a guaranteed success in surgery. Even a one percent risk was something to take seriously.
Joshua could sense her unease,
He pulled Xylia into his arms, holding her close.
He buried his face in the crook of her neck, drawing comfort from her calming scent.
Deep down, he had no real confidence about how things would turn out.
But before any of that, he didn’t want his family and friends to remember him with sadness.
And he especially didn’t want Xylia to be constantly on edge because of him.
That’s why he was willing to go through with the surgery–because even if these days ended up being his last, he wanted to make them count.
He had already taken care of everything.
“I know. Nothing’s going to happen to me,” Joshua whispered softly, holding her close.
Joshua saw the posts trashing Xylia as a bad mom.
His face turned stormy–he was practically fuming, ready to explode.
“I’m putting a stop to this right now,” he muttered, already reaching for his phone.
He was about to call David and have him take care of it.
But Xylia stopped him.
“Hold on, something’s up with Connor’s account. It looks like he’s going live,” she said.
“Wait, he’s in jail now–how could he even be posting on his social media? Xylia wondered, feeling a bit puzzled.
Xylia pulled Joshua over to sit beside her.
They both leaned in, eyes glued to the phone screen.
On the livestream, Sonny’s little figure popped up on the screen.
