Seeing Connor now, Xylia couldn’t help but remember how he had looked earlier that afternoon, his face cold as he ordered the servants to lock her in the dark room.

Connor stiffened, his expression turning rigid. “Does she know? he wondered. Panic flashed in his mind. He demanded, voice tight, “What do you know?”

Xylia said, her voice steady but resolute, “Connor, if you want to get this over with, let’s just go file for divorce right now. I don’t want any of your money or assets.

“Sonny can stay with you. I just want a divorce. Whatever happens between you and Tessa after that, I don’t

Xylia’s brow furrowed. “What are you gonna do to him?” she demanded.

“That depends on your next move,” Connor replied coldly.

Connor gave Xylia a frosty glare, threw her phone to her, then turned and walked out of the bedroom.

Xylia sat down on the edge of the bed, gripping her phone tightly in her hand.

Xylia was still wrestling with her thoughts when her phone rang again. It was Joshua calling. She took a deep breath before answering.

“I will, Xylia replied softly.

“But,” Joshua paused, unable to hold back, “if Connor ever lays a hand on you again, there’s no way I’ll just sit back and do nothing.”

“It’s Xylia barely got the word out before Joshua ended the call.

Xylia stared at her phone after the call ended, a wave of helplessness washing over her. But even more than that, she felt deeply moved by his kindness. Joshua really is so good to me, she thought.

After hanging up, Joshua rose to his feet, his expression grim.

David was just coming in when they nearly collided at the door. “Mr. Garcia?” he asked, looking uncertain.

“Get the car keys. We’re going to find Crawford now,” Joshua ordered.

David quickly snapped out of it and hurried after him. “But it’s so late now. Mr. Fletcher might already be asleep.,” he said hesitantly.

Joshua didn’t even seem to hear him. He knew there was no time to waste. He had to make Connor pay the price.

As Connor left Xylia’s room and headed toward his own, he saw Tessa standing right outside his bedroom door, waiting for him.

His icy demeanor melted in an instant. “Tessa, were you waiting for me?” he asked.

Tessa nodded, her eyes full of guilt as she looked at him. “I came to apologize. Just now, a guy called Xylia, and I picked up instead.

“I accidentally told him about Xylia being locked up in the attic, and that’s why he called the police. I’m really sorry. It was all my fault.”

When Connor heard that guy, his expression darkened. But seeing Tessa looking so guilty, he felt a pang of sympathy for her.

He reached out and rested his hand gently on her head. “This has nothing to do with you. You don’t have to carry the burden for what Xylia did.”

“What are you going to do now?” Tessa asked.

Connor’s voice was calm. “If Xylia owns up to her mistakes and changes, I’ll forgive her and try to live peacefully together. But if she doesn’t, then I’ll see to it that guy vanishes from Jupiton permanently.”

As soon as Tessa heard Connor’s words, her gaze lost its light. “Is that all? Just make him disappear?” she wondered.
