This was the first time since she’d known Joshua that Xylia had ever heard him talk to her like this.

He’d always protected her dignity and never tried to interfere in her personal life. But now, he was laying out his expectations, making his request clear. And his tone was more serious than ever.

Xylia was momentarily stunned. But when she realized Joshua was just worried about her, she simply smiled.

“Relax. I’m going to divorce him soon. Seriously, you don’t have to worry about me,” she said.

But Joshua’s frown stayed put. He walked right up to Xylia. He looked at her and said, “If you think the divorce is a pain, just say the word, and I’ll help you out.”

“No, that’s not necessary, Xylia blurted out, clearly resisting.

Joshua just stared at her, saying nothing

“This is my business. Please stay out of it,” she said quietly, avoiding his eyes.

Joshua could feel the distance Xylia was putting between them, and it left him even more uneasy.

Just as he was about to say something, Connor walked in. When he saw Joshua in the hospital room, his expression darkened even more.

“Why are you here?” Connor demanded, his voice raised and tinged with anger.

Afraid Connor would cause trouble for Joshua, Xylia spoke up first. “I’m sick, and he just came to see how I was doing. What’s wrong?”

Connor hadn’t expected Xylia to defend Joshua like that, and his expression darkened even more.

“Xylia, I haven’t seen you in a few days, and now you’re letting him come visit you? Have you no shame?” he snapped.

“Connor, what nonsense are you spouting?” Xylia shot back, her voice sharp.

Connor was already furious because Joshua had taken his business, and seeing Joshua getting close to Xylia made his rage hit the roof.

Xylia looked at Joshua. “Why don’t you head back first?” she said softly.

Joshua caught the concern deep in Xylia’s eyes. His hand tightened at his side, and his face softened just a bit.

“Get some rest,” he said. With that, Joshua turned and walked out, not sparing Connor a single glance. Connor turned to Xylia, his face as dark as midnight. The gentle look he usually wore was now replaced by a chilling frost.

“Xylia, did you forget what I told you? If you still refuse to cut him off, I swear I’ll make him pay for it,”

Xylia said. “I’ve told you before. Joshua and I are just friends. You keep twisting things between us. What? Are you just dying to call yourself a cuckold?”

Her voice was almost indifferent, but every word landed right where it hurt, sharp and merciless.

Connor’s anger boiled over. He stormed up and grabbed Xylia’s chin, his grip rough and unyielding. “You screw up and still have the nerve to make excuses?”

“What did I do wrong?” Xylia shot back, meeting Connor’s furious glare with unwavering determination.

Connor had never seen this side of her before, and for a moment, he was completely thrown off. He yanked Xylia away, rough and merciless.

Xylia steadied herself with one hand on the bed, refusing to let herself look weak.

“Xylia, don’t test my limits. If you keep this up, even if Grandpa insists, I’m done with you,” Connor warned.

By the time Xylia looked up, Connor had already stormed out of the room.

Xylia frowned, her heart leaping into her throat. She just couldn’t figure out why Connor, who was obviously into Tessa, shot her down every time she brought up divorce.

‘Orion is clearly trying to use me and this marriage for his benefit. What’s he really after? I need to get to the bottom of this, she wondered.

After leaving the room, Connor strode after Joshua, catching up to him in just a few quick steps. “Stop right there,” he barked.

Joshua turned to face Connor.

“I don’t give a damn who you are, but if you keep sniffing around my wife, you’re dead meat, Connor spat, his eyes blazing with fury.

Joshua’s lips curled into a smirk, but there wasn’t a trace of warmth on his face. “What will you do?” he shot back, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

Connor stepped right up to Joshua, his eyes scanning Joshua’s face with a cold, calculating look.

“You work for the Garcia family, right? Even with their backing, don’t think I can’t mess with you here in Jupiton. If you want to keep your job, you’d better stay in line, Connor threatened.

Joshua scoffed, “Mr. Ford, you claim to care so much about your wife? Then why did you make her take the blame for that car accident four months ago?”

Connor’s eyes widened in shock, his disbelief written all over his face. He couldn’t believe Joshua actually knew about that. But he didn’t admit it.
