Connor’s brow furrowed slightly when he heard the voice on the phone. “Who is this?” he asked.

“My name is Frankie Harding. I’m a high school classmate of Xylia’s. We have a class reunion scheduled for next week, but we’ve been unable to contact her.

“We found your contact details. Could you please help pass along the message to her?” the voice on the other end explained.

Connor replied briefly and hung up the phone. After thinking for a moment, he dialed Xylia’s number. However, he quickly realized that he couldn’t reach her. She had blocked him.

Furious, he immediately called his assistant. “Find out where Xylia is,” he commanded.

The next day, Xylia was at home packing, preparing to head over to Rachel’s place shortly.

There was a knock at the door, and Xylia, thinking it was Joshua, hurriedly went to open it. But to her surprise, it was Connor standing at the door. “Why are you here?” she asked.

“Who else did you expect?” Connor replied with a mocking glance as he lowered his gaze to her. “Aren’t you going to invite me in?”

Xylia blocked the doorway. “If you have something to say, just say it,” she said firmly. She had nothing to talk about with him.

Her guarded demeanor annoyed Connor. “Why did you block me?” he asked.

“Isn’t it normal to block you after a divorce?” Xylia responded coldly.

“Don’t forget, we haven’t actually received the divorce decree yet,” Connor said.

“I’ll remove you from the blacklist once we go to collect the divorce decree,” Xylia said.

Connor clenched his fist tightly at his side. If Xylia weren’t still his wife, he would have probably punched her by now.

He suddenly sneered at her. “I don’t believe you’ll actually hold out until then.”

He had felt how dependent Xylia had been on him throughout their seven years of marriage. He didn’t believe she could truly let go of the marriage or her feelings for him.

“Your high school classmate called me,” he continued, “saying they couldn’t reach you and invited you to a reunion. I accepted on your behalf.”

Xylia furrowed her brow. She had never attended any reunions since graduation.

She glared at him. “What gives you the right to agree for me?”

“Just because I’m still your husband. Until the divorce certificate is finalized, we’re still married.”

Xylia believed Connor was doing this on purpose. Yesterday, he had been forced to register the divorce, which humiliated him, and now he was looking for an excuse to pick a fight with her.

She glared at him again and tried to close the door.

But Connor stopped her by pushing his hand against the door and grabbing her wrist. “Xylia, my patience is limited. If you come back with me now, I can act as if nothing happened.”

Xylia frowned, about to say something, when suddenly, an apple was thrown from a distance and struck Connor hard on the head.

Connor winced in pain, clutching his head as he turned to see who it was. Joshua was walking from the elevator with a bag of fruit.

He was dressed in a casual black–and–white tracksuit, his silver hair parted neatly, and the strands at his temples swaying as he walked.

His handsome face darkened. The aura of authority around him was far stronger than Connor’s.

“What are you doing here?” Connor asked, frowning.

Joshua sneered. “Why do you care where I am? But you, ex–husband, can’t seem to let go of your wife of seven years, are you here to beg for forgiveness?”

“Beg for forgiveness?” Connor spat out, turning his attention back to Xylia. He tightened his grip on her wrist.

In his mind, he wasn’t at fault. Xylia, who was always acting willfully, had pushed him to this point–alienating him and their son, while still holding onto petty grudges against her sister.

Xylia kept trying to pull away, but the pain was making her pale. Suddenly, a firm hand twisted Connor’s wrist, and he was forced to release her.

Before Xylia could even see what had happened, Connor was knocked back and hit the floor hard. She panicked, grabbing Joshua’s shirt to stop him from moving forward.

Joshua turned to her, then glanced at Connor. “Leave,” he said coldly.

Connor watched Xylia protect Joshua behind her and said with growing anger, “Our divorce is a done deal. If you keep harassing me, don’t blame me for being rude.”

After delivering her words, Xylia quickly pulled Joshua inside and slammed the door shut behind them.

Connor, still holding his side, struggled to get up. That kick from Joshua had been fast and painful. Joshua clearly wasn’t just some pretty boy, but someone well–trained.
